Here's my 'cubicle' at my day job. There's also more pics on the third wall on the left...almost 50 all together. All cars I've built or at least, painted. They either think I'm nuts. or really dig it!

 

Those are some cool prints, lot's of cool details. I've never heard of him.

In our very early days of going to Lions Dragstrip near our house, we met quite a number of our same age teens working in the refreshment stands. Most of them worked in the spectator’s side large stand and but or favorite were the guys in the smaller, lonely pit area refreshment stand. By lonely, during the pre-eliminations, it was busy, during the actual eliminations, it was also busy.

But as the night wore on, the empty pits and this lonely hot dog stand was the cool place to be, for us anyway. We knew the manager of the concession stands and of course all of the teenagers that worked in the fun, hot dog stand in the Pits.

After our accident, the recovery period was empty of the notion of hot dogs on a Saturday night. But, the friendships we created from those teens working in the pits made up for it in the years to come. Kids from local areas of Long Beach near the Lions Dragstrip were the main ones hired. Those teens were the kids that we eventually met in high school.

One of the kids working in the lions Pit area stand was very funny. He definitely had an odd sense of humor and was very intelligent as we found out later in high school. During our surfing days, it was fun to see those guys that were still hot rod/drag race guys venture into surfing as my brother and I did during our aftermath period. Our walls had photos of hot rods and when the surf magazines came out, we did not want to ruin the continuous reading. So, we looked for extra mags (HOT ROD/SURFER)and then cut out our photos for the school notebooks and bookmarks.

As mean as it sounds, we had very few, if any posters or photos stapled or taped onto the walls of our bedroom. There was one surf photo of me, taken by my brother, a plaque I won in high school, and one colorful poster. But, they were attached with small single nails, or the poster had 4 sewing pins to hold it up. My mom had this thing that the walls of the house were to remain pristine and I agreed.

The only other reason was that I was tired of changing the color of the walls and closet by painting almost every year with new color. Luckily or unluckily, my mom had a wall paper design we never took down to speed up the repaint jobs again and again.

But, when our ex-Lions pits and surfer friend graduated from H.S. he decided to go to UCSB. Of course we visited him many times to surf Campus Point, Devereaux, and Rincon. But, what was the most interesting thing from our friend, was his choice of wall paint for his dorm room. It was something we had never seen before or will see. He had painted his dorm room completely black.

Trim, window edges, inside of the door, and if we did not tell him that the paint would come off of the porcelain sinks, those would be black, too. It was fun sitting around with dim lights, listening to rock music and looking at his collection of posters hanging on cool, black walls. With the black curtains, the whole effect was rather calming and peaceful.

I liked the look of the all black room. So, when my wife and I had our own apartment, I wanted a black-walled room and fixtures. She said no to black, but allowed dark blue walls and we bought dark blue shag carpeting. A lamp was spray painted blue and the effect of the room was very cool. One last thing…our own bedroom was painted a bright, but, deep red and we had a surf glassed, red color headboard with a psychedelic sticker in the middle. The glossy resin coated headboard was a center piece as people walked into our tiny apartment.

note: Our old house growing up as pre-teen and teenage years was a post WW2 home. My mom was into early color coordination almost every year, with two slave labor kids to do the painting. It was so colorful that even the single bathroom was pink tile shower, pink tile floor and of course, pink walls/ceiling. Our "boys" room was usually a light blue until we discovered beige or white.

 

My new favorite thread! I'd much rather l@@k at the shit on the walls than the cars themselves! I'll see if i can't find a few of mine to share. It'll be nothing like Ronnie's! He has issues! LOL!

 

Man cave/shop/garage/etc. Nothing shiny and clean in my shop lol.

How long you going to keep that toilet seat thats hanging on the wall?

 

The toilet seat you noticed is an antique. I'm a plumber by trade and in 1994 I purchased a company that had been in business at the same location since 1907. that seat with the mirror behind (wink) it was hanging on the wall downstairs. I have several toilet seats displayed in my shop because they support an important part (wink again) of my business.

 

Damn Dude! You need a hobby! LOL!!!

 

When I was a kid, my room was plastered with about 3 Hot Rod pictorial issues from the late 60’s that I cut up and hung with pride. These days the garage has gathered a more eclectic mix. Like my buddies blown ‘61 Vette sold back about’78, an original ragged graffiti poster, an old Sha na na, a 1970 super stock race I was at, some bondo Bob Williams stuff, and a few transition shots of my own oldies:

 

I'll add more later.

 

This could be why I don't get much done!

 

Todd ( Va HAMB) show us more pictures. I know you have more cool wall stuff. Timmy (1low52) if you hadn't posted yours, I was gonna. Your garage walls are the coolest I've seen. So I'll add a few more of my junk. But I just realized, I need to do some cleaning! Ron......

All I can say is,.....Ron, I'm glad you have grand-kids.

 

Amazing what can be done nowadays. My buddy had this wallpaper made for his burger stand in Corpus Christi, Tx. A pile of old hot rod and car craft magazines and pics saved off our phones from the drag races. That's my 55 stude at Little River.

 

Mine was totally out of control

 

Spent last winter cleaning it up.
Now I have room for all my signs.

 

I was showing a buddy around the shop and telling him stories about everything on the walls. He said I was building a museum. lol Hmmmmmm, he might be right

 

You need to get a wagon to put that rack on!

Very cool,,,you would have liked the basement toilet in my last house. Wooden tank, tin lined, circa 1918. I had never seen one.

 

If I posted pictures of my shop and studio the difference would be clear. I think a collector can get to his stuff.
This is cool to see but I'm glad I don't have to dust it.
