Technical Trying to identify old hotrod disc brake kit

I got these parts in a load of stuff I bought.im trying to id what the calipers are and what rotors it would use.the brackets are nice quality.i just don't recognize any of the parts.any help would be great,thanks.

 

The bracket is on the spindle backwards but otherwise, that looks like Superbell or Magnum. Uses 78 and up GM metric calipers. You will need to check with them from rotor info.

 

Thought that too but there is no threads for the bolts to hold the calipers on for metric ones.these are held on by some kind of missing clips?

 

Nope. Not GM calipers.
They look like 70s Ford like Torino maybe

 

Ok I've found pics of 70 mustang calipers and they match what I've got.cool.now I've gotta figure out who made the kit to see what rotors and or special bearings

 

I'm thinking that they used a rotor that fastened on the stock Ford hub but could be wrong. A search through late 70's to mid 80's rod magazines will probably bring up adds for them as they were reasonably popular then.

 

Measure the caliper piston diameter.
This will help narrow down what application the calipers were originally from.
But it does look like an early 70's Mustang caliper.

I had these on my last rod, I believe they are magnum and mine ran 70s falcon(down under falcon) discs and Kelsey Hayes calipers I think.

Superbell made a kit in the 70’s that used the Mustang caliper (71-73) and rotors with the early ford hub

Like 31apickup said. That is a 70's Superbell Super Stopper kit. I don't remember what rotor they used but Superbell should be able to tell you.

Found the info in my magazine stash. Rod & Custom #4 from 1978. It is a SuperBell setup that takes rotors from Comet, Falcon, Mustang, Cougar, Fairlane, and Montego from 68-70; otherwise known as the intermediate unibody cars. The bad part is that these rotors need to be used with the special SuperBell hub as these rotors are separate from the hub. Probably the reason why Superbell went with this particular rotor. Back in 1978 this would have been a very reasonable swap with readily available parts. Past their due date.

 

Maybe I'll give Pete and makes a call and see if they got a set collecting dust in the backroom somewhere.ha

 

That's what they are. I put a set on my brothers '27 in 1979 and they are still on it today.

 

If they are Mustang, those are Ford's first-gen 'floating' calipers and aren't the best design. They were known for uneven pad wear, particularly if the mounting hardware/return 'spring' was reused after pad replacement. Ford replaced these with their 'sliding' caliper design in the mid-70s that cured the problem.

They are in fact the mustang brakes that mount to a special hub that was made to fit the early Ford spindle. I have a set of these. This is a picture of the hub and caliper bracket.

Ithink those are pinto bobcat pieces. I bought a set up at a garage sale last fall. The calipers look the same, the brackets look like every other after market piece. They were on an old dodge axle, that i just could not live without
