That's a really nice all steel Willys. Don't remember for sure what 1/4 mile times he was turning, (in the 12's, I think).

However, on one run the windshield popped out. It was figured out that a previous owner had installed the windshield wrong. It was on the inside of the flange that runs around the windshield opening, not on the outside. No sealer was used, either.

LB I'm not nit picking but I know that is a 1940 Deluxe. That's exactly what I had, I believe 41's are called "Americar" it says so on 41 bumpers. That is a beautiful car.

As I understand it. the nose on the SWC car was changed because they were worried tht they were going to be protested and disqualified because it had a custom grille. If gassers couldn't be customized, then why were Willys pickups allowed to run shortened beds?

CM I do not think that is correct, I am scanning the 1964 rule section on gas coupe and sedan. It's the first one listed under "Radiator & Grille" I was around when SWC ran that car and it had the glass nose and mesh grille. If you look at the early custom tube grille it was with the steel nose and the grille opening was enlarged for whatever reason. The mesh grille and glass nose was by far lighter and I think that was the reason for the mesh grille.
