I'm going to show you a horror story of a front seat. You guys make some suggestions on how to make it better, please.
BTW the brackets are toasted, missing internal parts. I have a set of brackets for bucket seats that I can modify. Even looked at cop car bucket seats.
2 or 4 door? If it doesn't have to fold, station wagon seats are fairly plentiful still. If you got a 2-door, look around for an old Cadillac leather power seat.
Take a taperule to the junk yard knowing how wide the stock seats are an find some same that you like.
They have these places called “upholstery shops” that could do wonders for that. That’s your true best answer. SPark
If you want low back buckets, picking will be pretty slim. Early Chrysler minivans had some, but they may sit too high off the floor.
Interiors by Troy in Summerville is about the best in town, but I don't know what your budget is. If you need his number, send me a message. If you are small on budget, head to LKQ salvage on Rivers with a tape measure. You might even catch them on half price day. Good luck, -Abone.
If you like to learn how to do new things, buy some new reproduction seat foam and reproduction seat covers and do it yourself. Its not really that difficult. Dearborn Classics sells that stuff.
This is the best solution if you want it to look right, unless you have your heart set on cobbling some seat in there that doesn't belong. Replacing a seat cover isn't that difficult, especially if you can get new foam.
Whatever you do, DON'T DARE think that a seat that looks good with the rails beneath might fit. That Galaxie is shorter than a 1-liner, and you'll be 'head-lining' with any seat 'higher' than the original! ...ask me how I know. I wore a flat top all the while I drove MY '63-1/2! (I'm 6' tall)
Thanks, it seems like it's better than it looks, after all. Not scared of doing upholstery, just wanted y'alls opinions. 2 door hardtop btw.
Check the classifieds here. MercGuy1951 is selling 2 bucket seats from a 1964 Merc Maurader. Should be a direct fit. Sent from my SM-T350 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I started with this. I added a Consew 206 several trips to the store, the internet and several evenings and weekends to get this
'64-'66 t-bird buckets are what came XL's, I can't promise the seat tracks will work, but they are pretty low.
I need to get the brackets straight so that the seat doesn't flop around like a flounder. It's a pain in the ass, literally, to try to drive it around with a seat that won't stay put.
Okay, so I dissected the original brackets to get the extensions off the rear, and welded them to some good ones I had (they came from a Pinto of all things) and they fit and function pretty well. Need to modify the adjustment levers to clear the seat finish panels. I have had those Pinto brackets in my shed for at least twelve years.
