Projects Is this an original 32 frame ?

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by Jeff's '29 Roadster, Sep 28, 2019.

  1. Dear friends, I was looking to acquire a “1932” frame. I know that the stamped numbers start with 18 (very faint in pics), but the other numbers look odd....any input? Both pics are from the same car, I just enhanced the first one.

Any other pics of the frame? The secondary stampings don't seem to be done at the same time as the "18" . There might be numbers under the rocker panel area and over the rear axle.

  3. Look for a 'dimple" on the top part of the frame where the firewall foot bolt goes. The repro frames I have seen do not reproduce this little dimple on the top part of the frame.

  4. Show a picture of frame......

  5. I noticed you didn't say it's a 1932 ''Ford'' chassis. are you talking about a ''Ford frame or is that the only car in 32. JW

  6. It might be an original frame but the numbers are not original, wrong font. Go to: http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/flathead_serialnumbers.htm and look at the font on the bottom of the page. This same font appears various places on the internet so I am sure it is correct. My guess is that someone stamped those numbers into the frame for some unknown reason. Maybe they were trying to match their title. Maybe they were trying to change the numbers on the frame so they could sell the frame and keep and use their title for another frame. Were you able to find the other two numbers on the frame? Something funny is going on, I think I would run fast.

  9. And any idea what a running chassis like this is worth? It has a 351, Jag rear, full disc brakes

If you buy it without a matching title don’t plan on using those incorrect numbers to establish a new title.

How about going with the seller to the appropriate motor vehicle establishment and asking to get it transferred properly and legally into your name?

If it is successful, you buy it, if not, you don't.

  19. Here’s the big question.....what’s it worth? It runs, drives, stops.....just a price range would be helpful....Is $10k too much? 831C472B-59BC-45B3-A28E-E110C6DCEA83.jpeg 6B3DA5EF-B83A-4714-9E69-881EFD62C60F.jpeg 91FB5A71-2F39-4412-8149-B4B158DAF18E.jpeg

Frame itself 1000.00 crossmembers are not valuable
wheels tires 500.00 starsky and hutch need them
jag rear 500.00 only to someone that wants one
    engine trans 5-800 "
front axle does not look like '32

1932 Ford frames that were made for a V8 car had serial numbers starting with prefix 18- ****
the 4 cyl cars started with prefix B- ( 5 million plus *** ) only the Numbers stamped near the firewall
would have the prefix, the other two places on the top of the left frame rail would skip the prefix # or letter.
Not having a title that shows those numbers is a big problem ( at least in IL it is) Like some of the other guys have mentioned, there are enough original features showing to verify that it is an original frame. But with out a matching title it's value is greatly diminished. And those modifications that have been made to it, may be of little value to a buyer.

I will go with big Deuce. Who wants a Jag rear end ? Plus bogus numbers. I would stay away.

  28. If you were to build exactly that which you see because you wanted what you see then you’d have more than 10,000 wrapped up into it if you paid yourself something along the way.

That being said that looks like it was in use under a ride and removed. I’d wager the title stayed with that body and the numbers are on that title. If you’re planning on using it as is, in its current condition, with its current level of crud, in its current level of unknown wear, with in your possession is a titled body to drop on it and be driving next week- then it’s probably worth 10. Once you start monkeying around with it changing this or that, updating this or that, cleaning this or that, changing out 7 year old tires ,,,, (get it? ) ,,, the value starts dropping. You’re paying for things you’ll be throwing away.

They have all been watching ( and believing ) too much smoke and mirrors , "reality" TV, artificially manipulating prices and expectations.
