I realy bought it for Howard Stern.... He's out of control and I can't stop
lisinting...If your not into his show you might as well get XM cause if you
get Sirus you going to wonder on to his show and you will be a change person.

All the rest of the stuff that satellite has is AWESOME too just an extra bonus in my mind.

  2. Yeah if the sound of the motor isn't enough for ya, then XM without a doubt. Sirius is the cheap XM wannabe's.

  3. Daring post btw, a lotta guys on here will bust on ya for even having a fuckin radio.

Wow, I'm really surprised. I thought this thread would be majority XM for sure. Sirius has really been making some headway the last year. I've had Sirius for the last 3 years. Best thing they've done is pick up Little Steven's Underground Garage. What an awesome, eclectic playlist there. Everything from Johnny Burnette, Sonny Burgess, Link Wray, The Who, The Chesterfield Kings, Elvis, The Clash, The Ronettes, The Saints right on up to current bands like The Raveonettes.
I was disappointed when they got rid of Swing Street. They played some cool, obscure 30's and 40's stuff.
And like others, I'm continually disappointed with Sirius country channels. The Roadhouse channel which is s'posed to be "classic country" plays way too much bullshit like The Oak Ridge Boys and Crystal Gayle. I wanna hear Hank Penny, Bob Wills, T. Texas Tyler, Milton Brown and Al Dexter! You gotta listen to 30 songs from the 70's before they play one Tex Williams tune. If they addded a western swing/honky tonk channel, I'd be in heaven.

Your basis for this statement is what? There's no Jerry Lewis channel on Sirius? :p

  6. I have one question for the XM people - since when is Elton John a deep track???? That is the only thing that drove me nuts - there are only two classic rock stations and they both play way too much Elton JOHN.

I dug the XM "blues" channel - it was very good.

but Sirius Outlaw is about all I listen to on the commute.

One cool thing my sirius radio has is "Artist Alert" - if you save an artist you like - up to 25

it will beep when ever that Artist comes on any of their channels and you can hit a button and hear the start of the song. So when ever a Johnny Cash song starts, or who ever else you have saved in your favorite artist list- you have the choice to change to it and hear it. It also helps you explore some of the other channels. Really cool feature if you ask me.

I can't believe no ones mentioned the best XM show: Heehaw Hell, on Fungus. That, together with Kowabuna Uber Alles are the ONLY reason I have XM.

Suprised noone mentioned this, but whichever you buy, go ahaed and get the home kit and boombox right away. They seem to change the recievers every 6 months or so, and they won't fit the new accessories. So I'd bite the bullet and get them now so when you decide it would be nice to listen to in the garage, you don't have to search ebay looking for the boombox. (happened to me.....)

Siruis os where it's at - I've had the opp to demo both extensivly - and Sirius is the one I stuck with - I'm on the road alot and couldt drive without it now. Great music programming - updating channels all the time. Great comedy stations, howard stern, Also - will be getting the nascar - has the baseball, NBA etc. I listened to all the major hockey games on there. Playboy channel - RawDog uncensored comedy, BlueCollar comedy, outlaws country station, good bluegrass and blues stations. Sirius is kicking XMs ass right now in terms of subscriber sign ups - which is great.

Ha! says who? is that more Howie math?

sirius dosent even have a portable unit that you can listen to live!

"More importantly" the current units they are are the refrigerator sized. the older ones even had cooling fans in them and still cooked themselves.

    WOW
Well you get what you ask for. 3 pages of opinions!
Seems to me that opinion is split nearly 50-50 on favorite.
And all for different reasons. and different channels.
I am trying the free trial online XM offers right now.
    I am impressed.
In a couple days I'll listen to Sirius.
Walmart seems to be the best deal on the receivers.
    Thanks all.

  18. OH - and another feature of the sirius that makes it superior is the genre categories - you can pick - ROCK then the channel you want. Or country then the channel you want - talk radio then the channel you want

XM requires you to thumb through every channel consecutively and the channels are in random order for the most part.

    Which would you rather have?

tudor, you had an old piece of shit XM tuner. my new works just like you sirius. Opie and another kick the shit out of Stern, plus XM has hockey. the only shitty thing is that they both play Elton John on their rock stations.

not true, with XM you can flip thru channels by artist, genre song, etc and they too have tune select, that will beep ya if a certain song or artist you pick is currently playing.

I'm gonna start my own satellite radio company to compete with Sirus and XM.... I'll call it HAS! Hokey Ass Satellite.

These will be some of the channel line-ups:

Misfits channel- nothing but Misfits 24/7. And no, I don't mean that fake ass Modern "2000's" Misfits either. If Glen ain't singing.. It IS NOT the Misfits.

Bleed channel- All day, all night... Bleed and lil Bobby Bleed. Music, interviews, porn and Wisconsin humor.

Hankcash channel- You guessed it, Hank Williams Sr. and Johnny Cash 24/7.

Retro Skate- Only the songs that I grew up to on the half-pipe. Minor Threat, Dead Kennedys, Circle jerks, Suicidal Tendencies (first album only), TSOL, Violent Femmes, Sub-humans and more....

Panty Droppers- All make out music.. from Whitesnake's "still of the night" to Sinatra and Johnny Mathis.

Movie channel- Actual movie audio to listen to while working... Anchorman, the Jerk, Full Metal Jacket, Raising Arizona.. there are a ton of movies that I would listen to without the visual.

The Ryan Cochran channel- this would be the shittiest channel on my line-up. No one would listen to it and I would be forced to cancel it after 3 months.

Anyone have knowledge on how to build satellite antenas and get them into proper orbit around the globe? I'm sure that we can figure it out. I can't wait to see the argument on weather our satellite will be flathead powered or SBC powered?

    Who's with me?

Edit Regardless - Stern can suck Elton John

XM's technology is regarded as superior to Sirius.......Sirius just started streaming the other day {lol} while XM has had it for years....Also, Sirius's portable doesn't give live programming unless it's docked.....In other words, they've re-invented the tape recorder

Fungus53 plays tons of misfits, my tune select is constantly beeping, and the playlist goes pretty deep, I have just about every bootleg, cd etc of theres and am alsways hearing a version that i have never heard before. wierd...

they also play all the "retro skate" stuff you like on regular rotation, but without many repeats.

Yeah, I have the Misfits saved as a "beep" artist, but I have never heard "she" or "return of the fly" on Fungus...
I do wish that XM wouldn't erase your oldest "beep" artist when you add a new one and hit you 25 capacity...

O yeah, there would also be a Myspace channel... nothing but 45 year old fat, bald, windowless van driving men posing as 19 year old star quarterbacks prowling for 18 year old snatch.
