Customs Dragster build

    Some pics of the dragster I built last winter. Had a blast playing with it this summer. Hope to get it quicker next year.

    its slow. 7.35 1/8 is the best yet to date. Ran a 7.79 last week with no high gear. if part breakage was down I think 6.90s in the 1/8

    I like it. Did you design the chassis your self or did you use someone else’s design?
    I know there are some vintage designs available.

    Yes. It’s the most fun I have had for years. I have had real race cars,hot rods and cruisers. This tops it all for fun. No plan was used. It’s all built from scratch looking at pictures from the late 50s. It’s similar to a chassis research of the era.

    It’s a high compression 355 with a flat tappet cam Chinese aluminum heads with a sintered iron clutch and a Saginaw 3 speed. Leaving in second and slick shifted to 3rd. Sending parts to liberty gears to have it face plated Friday.

    I didn't think an open top like that would pass tech anymore. Looks like an old Scotty Fenn chassis.

    It passes tech at our local track. running 1/8 mile helps too

    Saw it at the rumble. I'm guessing that's where the pictures are from. looked like a lot of fun.

    First of all, what track is this at? Secondly, cool little car; 100" wheelbase? Scavenger/adjustable headers, and a Powerglide/4500 RPM stall converter, and it would MOVE!!! I think NHRA/IHRA should have a Bracket Class just for "older style" dragsters; all the safety equipment per current rules, plus some additional bracing in the drivers area, but still retain the old "look". Course, I'm just dreaming, and although MJ is legal here in Washington State, I'm NOT a user. Always liked this style dragster. Mine was a 120 inch wheelbase, Kent Fuller chassis, FED with a 3 point cage, 333 CID SBC, Powerglide/trans-brake/4500 stall converter, 57 Olds/Pont rear end with 4.10 gears; 9.23 @ 146 MPH with a stock 340 HP short block 327 .040 over using the 10.35:1 pistons, mild flat tappet cam, and the heads were heavily modified, old school, 461X castings. Still have the engine and fire-suit; the dragster's been gone since 1984 when it was rep-laced with a 210" wheelbase RED. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

    It’s at thunder valley drag strip in Bethany mo. It’s 100 inch frame. I’m running a 3speed Manual running 2nd and 3rd with a sintered iron clutch. I think it will run once we get all the bugs out. Last month it blew the caps of the 9” ford. New strong center section and tore the teeth off high gear. Sent parts to libertys gears to have it faceplated.
