If I recall, I purchased a 7" Dual Diaphragm brake poster with a dual diaphragm master cylinder from Pete and Jakes Hotrod parts out of Peculiar, Mo.

From the look of the picture, it looks like I drilled new holes.

The mounts could have been done the EZ way: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/media/albums/289-302-351w-swap-mounts.41498/ You can use these headers they work in 1952-56 Fords & Mercs with SBF's https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/another-sbf-header-for-53-woohoo.1058469/

Thank you for all the info! I greatly appreciate it. I am going to run the Patriot header and will post pictures of the set up on my 54 when they come in. Here is what I did for motor mounts in my Windsor. This will be a stroked 427 small block.

I like your mounts. I have some bolt in conversion mounts but they are ugly. May try to duplicate your idea to fit my 302 in a 56.

  6. Sounds like you’re on the right track. Have you figured out the drive train yet? Or is that to be determined?

Going to run a stroked Windsor (427 cubes) with a streetfighter C6. 220cc heads and a nice street/strip hyd roller cam. 9" rear end and most likely a Holley Sniper EFI system.

When looking at the before pictures the one head looks like it was milled .060 or so before you got it.. The as cast area on the deck face is just almost gone that usally takes about a .060 cut.

You're correct the heads came off a 57 T-bird and looked like someone back in the day had milled one of the cylinder heads considerably more than the other. Most likely this was not a matching set of heads, regardless I milled them to match and then milled the manifold as well. Just wanted a little more compression than the stock motor had. When it was all said and done, we had the car on a chassis dyno running a small 600 carb and If I recall the old merc made around 145 - 155 horsepower at the rear tires.

Here are a few pictures of the motor back in 2009, we installed the motor for our maiden voyage up to the final Hunnert car pile up! We busted ass on the car the nights leading up to the day before and even a few hours before we left! Keep in mind this car was just inspected and licensed the day before we left. The car was driven about twenty miles and parked the night before the 300 mile ride to Decatur, Ill. The car made it up with out a hitch! Ran like a top all the way there! It did vapor lock a few times at gas stations, but that was part of the adventure. Once we got the car back home the decision was made to tear it apart and build the car you guys are now reading about. Damn....this poor car has been torn apart for a while!!!

Not bagging on you build just pointing out used parts can have a history.

No doubt!!!! That is why we decided to tear the car apart. When I purchased the car it had been passed around a few times, the wiring alone in this car was horrific! The maiden voyage had most of all the original steering, transmission, rear end and so fourth. Hell, when we took the frame off there were only two bolts holding the body on. This new build is with all new parts through out, wiring, suspension, motor, transmission, rear end, etc....that's why it has been apart for so long......Trying to gather all the parts and money! The parts are easy to get ......the money on the other hand doesn't seem to come as easy!

Finished welding up the rear-end after shorting the tubes. Last bit of welding on the bag mounts and the shock towers. Going to run the Accuair e-level system on the car. Should finish up the front shock mounts this weekend and complete the rack mounts too.

Wild build - a looong way from mine! I have several boxes full of '54 trim parts (30 plus years of collecting) if you need anything. I noticed that the sail panel stainless/plastic trim has been removed and if you are not going to re-install it I am interested in buying. My build took 36 years, mostly stock but with functional lakers, dummy spots, peep mirrors, and '59 Dodge Lancer flippers, all of which were poor boy affordable custom accessories in the '50s.
