OK you guys have been a lot help. Final question on this I hope. When putting the box back together using Tardells little book about it I have run into a stumbling block. When installing the lash adjuster and adjuster screw into the steering sector you can see in the picture that it's a really tight fit. One would have to beat it in and to me and that is pretty foreign as to how you should do anything mechanically. You could beat it in but I suspect two things happen. Don't see how you could turn the adjuster screw as it would be be too tight and bind and two would be you will probably break the casting. I ground off a little of the adjuster screw (it's OK I have three more) and it slides in now with a little drag. Is this the correct way to do this. Doesn't make sense to me as these are OEM parts that came out of Ford boxes albeit only one was an F-1. All three were the same. When I took the original box apart I just don't remember having to drive it out but mab y I did and don't remember.
They fit right in.Try turning it over.,or up side downAre you using the adjuster screw that came with the box,or the one from a rebuild kit?Use the Ford screw if it fits better.
Thanks...the slide plate slides in perfectly. It's the head of the adjuster screw that doesn't fit. I think I probably did the right thing grinding a little off the head to make it slide in. I am going to assemble it and see what kind of adjustment I get.
