  23. This one I just don't get. While the workmanship looks like it's first-rate, what's the point? The builder grafted a near-stock '55 front end to a also near-stock '57 rear half. With the exception of the 'Vette grill, where's the 'custom'? OK, I'll grant that the Carson top is 'custom' but needed after they took the sedan roof off (note there's no side glass and the windshield is a 'flipped' sedan piece). More that anything else it looks like a factory styling exercise that didn't pass muster...

I talked to the owner that day. The windshield is actually the rear window out of that car.

Looks like it could well be the Kopper Kart.
Although the bed & body aren't carrying the same line through!
The return below the tailgate is different!
    The 'big window' is missing!
The gap between the bed rails & fenders is too big!

Second thoughts, don't think it's the Kopper Kart.

  26. That's even worse; rear window glass is tempered, not safety glass. Get a thrown rock and the glass will be in your face...

  27. It was reported that the original was parted out. There is no knowing if things were modified after the fact but there are a lot of discrepancies from the original.

In France we had tempered glass as windshield up to the 70's because st Gobain (world n°1 glass manufacturer and at the time sole provider of car glass manufactured in France) didn't want to pay royalties. So to me it's not that dangerous and I know the feeling of a rock through such a windshield and the years of cleaning afterward.

I had read that the bed was salvaged. Looking at the tonneau cover, I am inclined to believe that this is, indeed, where it came to rest. Perhaps more, as well.
