    With the late, great TC Lemons, RIP.
    I spoke with him at Union Grove when he and Don were there with an early Swamp Rat for exhibition runs, we were right across from them in the pits. When I asked him about Major Cooksey his eyes lit up and he howled with laughter. Garlits was running the 8 3/4 Mopar rear end, feeling the lighter weight and less friction was worth it, but only getting one or two runs on a R&P was getting to him. They had heard about Major and his voodoo treatment to make the 8 3/4 live so TC took three center sections to Cooksey's shop in Texas. The arrangement was this- if they worked then pay up. Well after the first one lasted 4 or 5 runs Garlits sent the check. Major was annealing the gears and had the recipe down pat.
