I don't think it's a matter of repop, they haven't stopped using them in some circles :D....Still sold by Speedway , ...Winters, Hot Rod Works, Rodsville , Summit, Jegs etc. Similar gears are still used in midgets .

@97 I know they make the 6 spline 1 3/8” shaft gears but an old halibrand 101 needs 6 spline 1” shaft gears.

Yes I have both V8 and Model A quickchanges , I sourced 101 gears from Kiwi Quick Changes in New Zealand, but he buys them from Winters AFAIK. I am sure I also ordered a set from Summit and picked them up in Sparks Nevada store , however that was in 2008, so maybe things have changed. I am sure though that I saw Winters Model A quick change parts on Hot Rod Works website recently.
Here is Winters 6 spline chart , It clearly says when ordering 1" gears add a 44 prefix to the gearset # to buy 4400 series (1") gears.

@97. Thank you. I saw the winters gear chart before and got confused thinking it was talking about gear width not the shaft size.

  6. I hate to admit this but looking on ebay, you can find 1" wide 6 spline gears.
Depending on the R&P, you will probably not need too many sets.
I carry a few in the trailer for the race car, but only enough to get me to the ratio I need. Yes, I spend time on the calculators for performance curves.

@johnneilson thanks. I don’t mind my 3:78 gear for rolling around town. But in 1/8 mile racing I’d really like to switch close to a 4:56-5:12.

  8. just do the math, I run 3.6 around town and on fwy, 4.1 when feeling frisky on the 1/4mi.
oh, forgot to mention, look in swap meets, found a few for less than $20

After waiting 6 months to get a torpedo gas tank for my speedster, literally the day my card gets charged and shipping notification is sent, an original w/legs pops up for sale. Such is life. On the flip side, Houston is starting to cool off and I might meander back into the garage soon.

  11. GOOD! What with all the flooding in Houston I was concerned about you and your family. I was afraid you might've had to turn your project into a motor boat!

It was an interesting day, took 5 hours to get home. Lots of flooded out cars and trucks. People just parked on the side of the freeways for hours cause you couldn’t get off. Our little bungalow did ok, couldn’t get to it cause the main roads in all flooded, but the house was dry. Nothing like 24” of standing water on the way to your house.

Put some “traditional” plug wires with Rajah clips on the Zipper. 5’ of wire was 9.95 from The Hot Rod Company through Amazon. However, got 59” and handling was $8.42. Having owned a MO company I understand handling costs. This is a bit much. 1F359325-C845-4357-8916-2E3C5E9BAD60.jpeg

    BrumField super head 7.5:1.

Larry Brumfield has a company in Texas that manufactures oil field tools. During the turn down in oil field production, he manufactured A heads in two versions. When oil production picked up, he quit making heads. If you can find one, they usually go for premium prices.
