So I have a 1964 f100. I was wondering if anyone can help me identify the engine inside it. It’s not a 292 Y block that’s all I know I’ve done a lot of research and the engine has no markings. The closest engine to it that I’ve found is a 302. Can anyone help me please. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
looks a bit wide for a 302, perhaps it's a 351W. There's a trick to telling which it is, but I forget, and it's hard to see the block/heads/intake junction, to make a guess, with all the stuff in the way. edit: maybe this will help
A quick method of determining between 302 and 351 is looking to see if the water pump is in the way of putting a socket on the lower thermostat bolt. If the water pump is in the way it's a 289 / 302, if you can put a socket on it it's a 351. Jim's way works too.
I normally just look at it to tell, but pictures trip me up....harder to get the scale right from looking at a pic, than from real life.
I always thought the socket on the lower bolt on the thermostat housing was the way to tell. Then i ran into a 94-95 Mustang and T-Bird 5.0 . The socket went right on. Had me shaking my head for a while. Different water pump and possibly timing cover.
