Me and a buddy piled into his 33 ford 3 window, ran hard for 12 hours to have that car striped. Gotta say, two bigger guys in a three window is a tight fit, we left here at noon, (Princeton B.C.), crossed the border and headed for Portland Oregon, down 97, to the columbia river and over to Clackamas Oregon to see Mitch. Now, driving in the rain in an early car is not fun, the windshield gasket leaked a little, not too bad, but as it grew dark, the halogen equipped stock headlights did not show much of the black rain soaked blacktop and tired eyes was the result. Finally a stop for dinner at an Outback cafe, scarfed down a casadila and felt like shit, then got lost in Wenatchee, road signage for a couple canucks unsure in the dark with bug eyes was not good, so....got lost. A young cop helped out and we were motoring again, no rain now. Soon though, more rain, took turns driving, and got to Mitch's place at 1:30 in the morning. He's not at his shop till 7, so....it was decided we'd catch a few in the car, yeah, right. Did I mention that a 33 three window is small inside? Got maybe an hour of sleep, with a street sweeper running around and a guy with a blower making shitloads of noise, till they left. THEN, one of the warehouses opens up, a truck pulls up and we watch some forklift action for an hour or so, 4 o clock in the morning, so, might as well go for a walk. At 7, Mitch shows, opens the shop door and we enter wonderland, and meet the nicest guy in the car world, truly a treat to meet this guy, shop filled with his work, plenty of cool shit here boys. I ask if I can take pics, he lets me, suggests me and Gerald walk to denny's and get breakfast, which we do. Couple hours later, on the walk back, we walk by one of these little drive up, get your coffee and leave places, And lo......there is a nearly naked woman serving coffee out the drive in window, and I mean....holy crap, two late sixty year old guys presented with a nearly naked woman at 9 in the morning? Fuck, I ain't seen a young naked woman in twenty years, what to do? Keep walking buddy, and treasure the memory. Got back to the shop, watched a skilled pro draw the finest lines you ever saw, and finally crawl upstairs and check out the carpet till the world turns black, that lasted an hour and I was alive again. 5 hours later, Mitch was done and the dirty car was beautiful, money was exchanged and we were off into the wild blue. Noon, we left, cranked her up to 80 mph, and flew for many hours, drove her hard till it got dark, eyes like two peeholes in the snow, both of us. Finally stopped for dinner at Rancho chico in Omak, had the best ever mexican dinner, called the old lady, still two more hours home and lit out of there. Can't do 80 in the dark, specially when you're in deer country and driving a small black car, so, found a bird dog and followed them so we could see, crossed the border and explained to the crossing guard why two old farts would do what we were doing, called us a pair of animals, laughed and said goodbye. Got home at midnite, had a fucken blast, and the car ran like a champ. Only question? When we gonna do it again?
Sweet story! I've known Mitch for decades. Great eye, steady hand, great guy. Lingerie baristas, keeping Portland "wired".
I believe he's famous for his microscopic Kama Sutra stick figure pin striping's. Hope I live long enough to take him some work................................................
... glad to have clicked on this ... thought it was Viagra spam. In a way, it kinda' was. Fun content.
Was that Meeks coupe with the Wayne head Chevy in there? I keep finding more cool stuff every time I look at the pictures
Don't know the car, but yes, it has a wayne head chevy in it, three pipes exiting under the drivers feet with bell shaped pipes. Didn't want to take too many shots, he was gracious enough to let me, didn't want to abuse the opportunity.
Suckers MEAN sounding. Not sure if he has a build thread on here or not. Was an un chopped sbc car when he got it.
Thanks for the take along, great story. The 33 looks familiar, and the second time that Mitch has stripped it.
Well hell did you go down 97 past my house to Biggs junction and not wave when you went by or did you cross over 90 to 5 and then go down? Mitch does hell fo nice work and I don't blame you a bit for making the trip.
Went down 97 till it ran out, probably went by your place well after dark. If there's a next time, I'll pm you for a warm bed. Thinking of taking my 36 to him. Don't know that an old fart like me can do it again, drove down, got striped, drove back, two days later, still tired. Bet my heart doc would be shocked.
Hemideuce, yes it is familiar, and yes, its the second time. It got fresh paint, so off we went, pretty fine car, drives nice, took a thrashing too, never even coughed, driven every day here.
