    Wow !
That’s got to be the most informative reply that I’ve had on here in a long time.
    (no disrespect to other replies)
    Many Thanks.

  4. Me and you both, just a decent old driver.

My pal Dave is doing this was a old '47 Ford cab that is in very good condition, he has a rough old 40 pickup truck with good frame, hood, grille and fenders but the cab is too far gone. HRP

I bought a '42 back in the late 80's, I was in the hunt for a engine and saw it in a shed. Ask the guy what year it was, "1942" he said. Me not knowing a lot, thought he was full of shit and it had to be a '41. Never looked under it at the time, could see what rust there was from outside. The front end was off and in the bed of the truck.

Loaded it up, got home and taking things out of the bed I'm like "WTF, this frontend is all wrong for a 40/41.

Head to the library, that's when I found out about all the vehicles made in '42.

Put it together, dropped a 221 I had in and sold it a few years ago. Was a neat truck to run into town with for sure.

  7. John, obviously he doesn't play well with others, I don't know what his problem is, but he likes to complain about what I post.

If I had a beer & pizza party and invited him I think he would probably complain about the free beer and pizza with mushrooms.

I just try to ignore his comments, I'm not looking for any arguments. HRP

I thought that it stemmed from my question, but maybe he was just having a bad day.

I think it is like HRP said . These are just an "unapologetic" truck. I have always thought those jail bars just give you a canvas to coming up with a creative cool custom look. Narrowing the top to bottom opening , throw in a '40/'41 Willy's grille and and massage the fenders for a little curvy slope. The white one that Jalopy Joker posted with the whitewalls gives it a classy look. Sort of like Marilyn Monroe .:)

And too add, who doesn't like Marilyn Monroe. The one Marty Strode posted just sits right as well.

  15. I remember a short lived magazine that I believe was titled Rodders World and it was probably published 3 times, in that magazine they did a article on one of these jailbar trucks and as I recall they drove it to Mexico for a Tijuana tuck & roll seat cover, I believe they called the truck Buford. 17. I like them. I'd own one. The body and interior need to be left stock and then just drop them down with a nice running drive train.

I always have thought that their only redeeming grace was the open drive banjo. Just my opinion though.

I've got to say that there's one I liked and maybe someone on here has a pic or knows the truck.
    • It came to Indy Goodguys back in the early 90's.
    • It was red
    • It had a Toronado or Eldorado or Riviera drivetrain in the bed
    • It had the ugly successfully cut off of it
    • It ran REALLY hard on the dragstrip
Anyone remember it or have pix?

In a early '60's Hot Rod Magazine, Wayne Miller's '47 Ford pickup,

It was a really good lookin' Ford PU titled : The Truck the Rodders Forgot.
    Liked them ever since.

Isn't it funny how WHEELS, TIRES, AND STANCE,
will change yer mind about what looks good?

@Early Ironman your 41 looks like a late model compared to that jail bait!
    upload_2019-9-24_13-19-19.png
1st truck I wanted to buy was a Jail bar, couldn't round up the funds at the time (many, many lunars ago)

  29. The ideal pickup, not so pretty you can't drive it to haul junk or trash nor so ugly you can't drive it to a cruse-in or a big show.

    And not worry about it.HRP

    HRP,
My 41 is a daily driver. I’m not too concerned about chips and scratches. It’s a fair trade for putting a bunch of miles on it.
I do try to park away from other people. But that is not often possible in Seattle.
Haul small loads with it, but am pretty limited with what I can carry.
Have another newer ot truck that sits and waits for the occasional large load needing to be hauled. Which ends up getting used by the neighbors more than me.
