I think everyone who has a kool Hot Rod gotta get a pic in front of that gas station. I took one with my 34 3W in 1991 on the way back from El Mirage. Did a desert to the Sea ride to Ventura then home to San Gabriel. That’s a very kool lil town that really resembles what it was when the Ca Kid was filmed back in 1974. I try to take as many out of state or country Hot Rodders by there when they’re in town.
Great image of the former Inglese 32 there.

Sounds good. I'm sure you know this by now, but it does get hot and humid here. Coolest event around here is the Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green, Ky. About 200 hundred miles for you. Next would be the Frog Follies in Evansville, In. That's about 300 miles away.

Yup, heard all about the humidity. Just going to have to acclimate to it. I've always wanted to go to the Frog Follies, now I can!

Is the gas station in Piru?

A couple pics taken at Jake's place.

    Yes, Piru. Main & Center.

It’s funny, I’ve been in San Gabriel, 55 yrs and live in TC nearly 1/4 of a century and don’t think that I ever took pix of Jake’s cars at his house.
None of the Hot Rods were daily drivers, (doesn’t mean that they couldn’t be-just not when he was there in the 90’s) save maybe the Tub. He mostly drove the Green Chevy Van with the Americans on it or later the White Chevy Van that I believe he bought from Mike Harper.
Sadly the old place was razed when Jake sold it for land value after he bought Mike Cardenas’s parents old place in Apple Valley-he built a huge shop up there.

    Saw Jake today,
He drove the Panel down from AV with Mike in his Roadster to our annual “Outriders Club Picnic”. He looked good!!!! Glad to see him out. Drove on out behind him, last I saw he was stopping to get gas for his journey home.
Sorry, I didn’t take any pix today guys as I was working although it didn’t much seem like it. ;).

Decided to borrow the Ron Funkhouser posted images of “Kolor Kreations by Dale Caulfield Automotive” posted on another thread with our good friend Stogy getting the images onto our screens. 1090C4C7-0B2D-4674-803A-91193B9A0FAD.jpeg

    Glad to hear from you!!!!!
It’s nice to see your adventures. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BUD!!!!!
Glad that you both are living the dream!!!!!!
You’re one of the nicest Hot Rodders that I can call a “Friend”.
I thought of you when I saw Dave post the Piru gas station from the CA Kid
Keep on having fun in those Hot Rods... I’m still envious of your cool “Ford Shop”!!!!

Rod & Custom editor Bud Bryan trip to Detroit Nats 1972 001.jpg Rod & Custom editor Bud Bryan trip to Detroit Nats 1972.jpg Thanks for a great history story! When building my '32 roadster, I used to make '32 headlight bolts for all the early parts guys, that's where I met Gene Scott & Ford parts Obsolete "Kretch" over on Florence by Good year rubber, & Jay in Hollywood early parts. This helped me financially to keep on re building my roadster for 6 years. When all finished & joining the LA Roadsters in 1971, Bud Bryan & Tom Medley found out I was planning a cross country trip to the NSRA Nats in Detroit Mi. in 1972, Bud wanted to tag along with his newly finished '29 hiboy. This 31 Well used roadster pickup was built by Dale, sold to his compadre (Mike) who had it for 21 yrs, now Mike said it was time to go back to Dale who built it in 1999 or so. It’s gone from Temple City, CA. on to a T. City in the S.E. As that’s where Dale does business these days...... on to the rebuild!!!!!!!

Wow David, that is quite a pic. That was a long time ago but it sure was fun. That was on the Cruise in to the Nats that NSRA used to sponsor. Remember, we were the last ones in the parking lot that night.

Yup, it is great to have my RPU back home. I am currently going over it to see what it will take to make it a driver again. The complete rebuild will have to wait until I get my 34 back on the road but I plan to get the pick up up to snuff so we can use it until I can blow it apart. I have to thank Kevin for pestering Mike to sell it back to me as he wasn't using it much anymore, then getting Mike and Kevin to bring it to Williams AZ where my trailer was waiting to be picked up and brought back here to Tennessee. Thanks again Kevin!
