has any body had any luck in putting a mechanical fuel pump on a sbc with a hurst front motor plate? without mods to the plate? if so, what was the pump for?
I used a set of 4 " SPACERS " that went in between the plate and the block. I trimmed the cross member ... My engine was a 56/57 block ( so NO side mounts ). A better way is to fabricate side motor mounts IF your block has the OEM mounting points for side mounts.
Also the old style carter fuel pumps had screws holding the bottom on and you could move your inlet and outlet to suit your need's......
The early original kits came with spacers that went between the mount and block . I made mine that allows me to use a stock type mechanical fuel pump in my '32...........Z
i was wondering the same thing. im using a 91 model block with a hurst style mount. zdiddy how wide are your spacers they look pretty big
Been many years ago but I remember them being 1 and 1/2 inches long. Just mount the pump and then mock fit the Hurst plate ... measure the difference
This one will give you all the room (and fuel) you need...... http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PFS-10731/
i'm running a sbc 400. big balancer. can't space the motor plate to much. i have a 1/2" spacer now. i think the summit pump is the way to go. thanks for the info, guys.
From Speedway Motors, Part # 91602046, (new) fuel pump can be disassembled to index the inlet/outlet area. Plus the rated output PSI is 6. Edelbrock carbs need 6 PSI, while Holley carbs need 7 PSI. I have seen this fuel pump to work correctly with either of these 4 barrel carbs, thus without the need to install a fuel pressure regulator. I am utilizing a Hurst front mount also.
The original spacers were just a piece of flat bar, about 3/8" thick. They were installed vertical and each one had two holes for the mount bolts. Doesn't take much to clear stock size pumps. So you can easily make whatever thickness you need.
I spaced out the mount on my Mercuchevrofordalet and works fine. Used one the Corvette style Carter fuel pumps you can point the outlets any direction you want. Sorry for the crummy picture, I was doing something else.
