Man, I wouldn't survive. We had some low 90's a couple weeks ago and a lot of high 80's and I was pretty badly wilted. I think I prefer the opposite extreme. At 30 or 40 below I build a fire in the big wood stove in my shop and I can have any temperature I want, pretty inexpensively. Your doors look really good.

OK I am just about ready to paint!!! I had to do a little work to the doors first. I noticed that I didn't have enough space in between the bottom of the doors and the threashold. There wasn't enough gap for the door panel to fit in so I had to do a little last minute surgery. I did NOT want to go there, but I had to. So now all I have to do is wet sand this thing down with some 600 and Im ready! Of course it will take me a few days to clean out the shop good enough to paint. I never thought that a garage of mine would be so filthy! I have shit everywhere!! Can't get work done staying clean!

Sucks now but you’ll be happy you did it later. Seems to be a theme common in my life lately lol

Im just glad I noticed it. It would have sucked to go all the way and find out you didn't have enough room for the door panels. I'm sure I'll find another situation to replace it. :)

So last week it started to cool down a little so I decided to do a little cleaning to get ready to paint. This was an all day job! EVRYTHING came out was washed and replaced! My garage looked like someone had taken a 50lb bag a flour and a leaf blower and went to town in it! (it was bad)

So with all the back and forth about color and trying different styles (which failed) I decided to go with my original choice of gold! It's the color that has always been on my mind from the start. Of course once I told my friends who do this shit for a living, they just shook their heads. Little did i know that painting gold metallic was not the easiest choice. (did I mention I love when people think I can't do something? :) )

Even though they all laughed at me they did take time and give me plenty of great advice, of which I listened very closely! And thank God I did! I have never painted a car before and without their advice I would have failed misserably!

So I spent quite a bit of time taping andshot the door jams. After that i shot the whole car with a intercaot of clear!
    (Thanks Jay! :) )

I'm not even sure how many coats of gold I shot! I just kept going until it was all smoothed out. In that garage it looks really good as far as striping or blotching. Can't wait to get it outside and see. I do have a little dirt in it in places but nothing major. I did have a run on the back window but it should come out with no problem. I am extreamly particular! But I am also realistic and for my first ever paint job I have to say that I am satisfied. It looks fine. Better than flat red primer I guess? LOL!

Picking a color is the hardest part for me so I read the entire thread, wondering what you would chose. Gold is an excellent choice!

  15. Wow that looks great Todd! I'm sure glad that you didn't listen, and went with the metallic gold. That's gonna look sooo sweet in the sun with the W.W.'s and chrome reversed wheels. I'll bet your dad, and Jake loves it too. We need to do a photo of all three generations with the { 2 For T }. I'm seeing a garage party to CELEBRATE !!:)

    Champaign Gold Metallic from paintforcars.com

I've read a lot of horror stories about them AFTER I bought it but I must say, it sprayed nice and I paid a little extra for their top clear and I have very little orange peel. it laid out nice. Hopefully it will last a good while. We'll see. It's $200 for the paint and clear so you get what you pay for so I hope it will be ok. I think the problem with these cheap paints is the folks who spray it. They don't know what they're doing and wait too long to clear etc..., Luckily I have a couple buddies who paint for a living so they gave me strict instructions on what not to do.

I know they are hard to see, but does anyone know anything about these headlights? had someone tell me one time exactly what they were but now he doesn't remember. :) I still have them and might like to put them back on. My Dad put a big scratch on one but might be able to repair it.
