46International, there are plenty of old engines around with exposed valve trains. Look into four cylinder teens Chevies and Buicks.

 

That's me. It was the early 90s, everyone looked that dorky.

 

I think Jay Leno Has a Merlin powered speedster. Seen it at Pomona Fair grounds about 30 years ago. Sorry just realized its an old thread.

 

The blue color changed to green and they modified also the back.This Curtiss Frazer Nash is now displayed in the Museum Volante near Freiburg Germany

Congratulations for your almost finished magnificent project of Curtiss Fraser-Nash!
Body is excellent: simple but elegant, with visible engine and transmission, nice details too!
Cute CFN emblem (badge) at a fee places...
Would you leave polished metal or paint body?

I forgot: did you until now test your Curtiss V-8 engine?
In a few days, we are going to Belgrade, for 4-weeks holiday.
Maybe your great auto would be finished in May when I return?

When I visited you, your Fraser-Nash Curtiss V-engine special was "just" a rolling chassis - but wonderful "skeleton" it was indeed!
We discussed a lot of all possibilities for the body, that must be period-looking, nicely built, with visible suspension, transmission and engine, of course!
I would be satisfied with the simplest body in a style of vintage English specials, but what you built is real sport-automobile carrosserie! Would you paint it or let that aluminium look?
Maybe just some details more and it would be ready for the road testing and then registration as historic vehicle?

Hello Zoran,
I don’t paint it because I think it looks better without paint when the car is finish it should look like a “Scheunenfund”as we say in german.
Sometimes I’m waking up early in the morning complete wet after a nightmare because in this dream they put me directly in the mad house when I applied for a registration.

 

You may be mad, but definitely in a good way. That's a beautiful piece of automotive art.

Knowing that you attested and registered your old Salmson as historic vehicle according to Swiss regulations, I am sure thta proeces is well-known to you!
Maybe that is a resaon for your nightmares about such a process for your new project?

In Serbia, you should need some connections (a good friend of a friend) and some money (a little corrupted official) and you could attest and register anything (in limits of common sense and safety standards) - at least some 10-15 years ago. The same, in a regular way you would have all-day-long nightmares to finish any one of otherwise regular and legal processes...

Your engine and transmission are vintage-period correct for British specials, the same as wheels, suspension, steering... The body is new and homemade, but also period correct, as many other vintage-era specials had, in their times or made much later, even today... Chassis is new, maybe with some original parts, with a serial number?

The last and probably the most unlike way would be to attest and register it as one of the following types (Google translated from German):

Type C - REPRODUCTIONS AND REPLICAS
A reproduction is a copy of a HISTORIC VEHICLE with which a specific model is presented, built outside the ERA of a REPRODUCER, with or without parts corresponding to the contemporary specifications. Such a HISTORIC VEHICLE must be clearly described to indicate that it is a replica. The HISTORIC VEHICLE given a name composed of the name of NACHBAUERS and the manufacturer and the model of the vehicle is a replica (Example: Smith Bugatti Type 35).
A replica must comply with the above conditions but was built by the manufacturer of the original vehicle.
Both replicas and replicas of historic vehicles are dated according to the date of its completion.

Type D - MODIFIED OUT OF PERIOD
Outside the ERA executed alterations and modifications to a HISTORIC VEHICLE with proven identity in a way they were typical of the era and with parts in accordance with CONTEMPORARY specifications.​

Type E – EXCEPTION
Outside the ERA executed changes to a historic VEHICLE with a proven identity, which has been using parts or technologies that were not available in the epoch, carried out. Maybe British officials would be more tolerated after such attest and registration and give you licence for shows and races in the UK with your automobile as the original vehicle (special)? There are a lot of such examples accepted socially and legally there. There are now more Bugatti Brescia sport-racers than are ever built during the original period, the same as Bentleys with compressor (that was quite rare as original)... Aero-engined monsters are thier old love!

Banjeaux Bob...What is this engine?..

I’m counting 8 cylinders in that radial engine and that doesn’t work in a normal 4 cycle engine.

What am I missing here? This must be a 2 cycle.

 

Yes it’s a 2 cycle

 

Let’s start paint and galvanize the different parts so the car hopefully will be ready for the road next spring.

 

The front axle and subframe is installed.

I just noticed your exhaust looks very similar to that on Richard Scaldwell's GN JAP. Did you draw any inspiration from his creation or someone else? Beautiful job.

 

My inspiration when I was building the car was always Richard Scaldwells GN Jap and Duncan Pittaway’s GN Curtiss.
