Hot Rods Please help me identify this body

Hi guys. My wife has been wanting her own ride for a while now and I stumbled onto this old body. I got it from a friend and he was told it was a 1927 Dodge. From what little research I have done, I don't believe it is a 1927. I think it is a 1930 Dodge Sport Sedan because there is mostly steel structure, and the lower cowl vents seem to be on the 1930 models. I don't have a frame or anything else for it and I don't know where the serial number tag is supposed to be located. Plans are to make it into a hot rod but keep it looking old style.
I am going to try to find a front passenger door, windshield frame, and I have thoughts of using Model A fenders on it because those should be easier to source. Are there any other cars that the parts night interchange with? Desoto maybe?

I know right! I was surprised it wasn't more rotted out.

Yeah, I know. But we have 5 kids and 2 doors just make it a bigger PITA.

 

My '29 Dodge Brothers DA Coupe had the lower cowl vent doors too. Some small changes between '29 and '30 in the DA models. I sold it a few years ago so don't have it to compare anymore. For sure not a '27 or '28.

Not much wrong w/4doors, other than the front doors are too short in length. 4doors should have the 2-door-sedan-doors on the front & slightly lengthened body to compensate. Best of both worlds.
Yah, I still prefer 2-doors, as in: coupes & convertibles, & the like, but seeing as how they are everywhere for ~ $2.00USD, well... .

I have found a 28 Plymouth Q coupe but all the wood is rotted out and gone and its pretty rusty. If the guy would come down in price I'd buy it.

 

Correct. Definitely a 1929 Dodge Brothers DA6 body. The instrument cluster shape/outline is the giveaway. The 1930 cluster is shaped different. Here is the 1929 instrument cluster....

 

Another tell is the lower corners of the windshield opening. On the 1929, the corners are rounded. On the 1930, they are squared off.

 

Thank you guys! Are there any places that sell patch panels for these? Also where is a good source to get a windshield frame and a rh front door?

See this book? I have it listed in the for sale section. Insurance guide to everything available between around 23 to 30. With bore and stroke, curb weight and price. Small line drawings. But what do you want for $5 plus mailing cost?

 

Can you see building something like this?



Low slung chassis with Jag or Lincoln independent rear suspension for extra lowness without losing passenger room. Swap meet grille and fenders, no running boards. If you wanted to keep with the vintage feel use a Ford 300 cu in truck six or would that be going too far?

Shown is a 1930 Ruxton front wheel drive. Today you could get the same lowness with a conventional drive train.

 

I'm thinking longer front portion of the frame with a straight axle and spring in front of the radiator. The engine wont be a traditional thing so I'll leave that out of here. I'm planning on building my own frame for it too.

 

I did get on a list to have a windshield frame made for this car. That's been the only thing I have located for it though. Haha

 

Does anyone on here have the frame dimensions for one of these by chance?
