It's loving that cool morning air. It's supposed to be in the 90's this afternoon which will be killing the horsepower. Sent from my SM-G960U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Done racing for the day. I plan to hang around for a little while, the drive today is only 152 miles, although traffic will probably get bad. It's getting near the end of the week, got to soak it all in before its over. My car has been working great, just has to hang together for one more day. Sent from my Trimline
Watching the live feed today. Track looks good, lots of good passes. The red 56 chevy running 7s shocked me, it doesn't look that fast before it runs
yep I watched until Jim made his run. when they where cleaning up the track. The camera guy gave Jims car a real look see.
Thanks to Jim and others for taking time to post and bring us all along for the ride. Hope to see a 9 second pass out of Plan II. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Anybody know what time the racing (stream) start on Friday? Some years it has been a little later. Thanks. Phil
Yep, Squirrel is bumping up against his limit right now, best for him to just be consistent where he is right now. He's doing well.
It was nice to finally get to meet you Jim. I wished I would of gotten up a little earlier to see your run but I did get to see some fast passes from the group. It kind of took me back in time. No high dollar rigs in the pits, drivers working on other people’s cars and more ingenuity than I’ve seen in quite a while. Good luck to everyone in Virginia tomorrow.
There is one class (I think small block power adder) where the rules allow up to an 8.50 cert so the top few cars are basically 8.50 index racing
I was thinking the same thing last night. If I knew where they were I would have headed down. Hell, I was up anyway.
Schedule. I'll probably run around noon if all goes well. My car only has safety stuff for 10.00 or slower. And that's as fast as it will go with the old stuff I have in the motor and drivetrain. So that's where it is. It's been performing just fine. It's warm out today. On the road. I stuck around to watch the end of racing today, now traffic is bad. Sent from my Trimline
Under Drag Week rules, only the Street Machine Eliminator class has an official ET limit, which is 10.00 seconds. All the other classes have NO ET limit. But all competitors must not go quicker than what their level of safety equipment allows under NHRA safety rules. At ET's of 11.50 to 10.0, NHRA requires at least a 5 point roll bar. 9.999 to 8.50 requires a 10 point roll cage. Quicker than 8.50 requires a "funny car cage", which has bars wrapping around 3 sides of the drivers head. There are 24 classes in total. Only the following 5 classes do not allow a funny car cage: •Street Race Small-Block Naturally Aspirated •Street Race Big-Block Naturally Aspirated •Street Race Small-Block Power-Adder •Street Race Big-Block Power-Adder B Gas So even though there is no ET limit specified in the Drag Week rules for these classes, none of them can run quicker than 8.50 under the NHRA safety rules. The Street Race Small-Block Power-Adder class has several cars that are capable of running quicker than 8.50, but any such runs do not count towards their score. Thus it has become a defacto 8.50 index class. Our hero Squirrel, in A gas is safety teched to 10.00 by his own choice, the class has no ET limits.
I have no new pics to post, but I got to meet and talk to Jim Forbes @squirrel yesterday at Atco. Really great and friendly guy. Glad I got to meet a person whose work I have admired for years on here. Thank you for taking some precious time talking with me Jim!
Good luck to all on the final leg. Your all winners in my book. I wish I could have been there with you guys.
I see what looks like patches of blue sky on the live feed. Let's hope they get back to racing soon! Sent from my SM-G960U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
