This project is in great hands. Should be a fun build.

  6. These are originally Auburn V12 engines re purposed as firetruck engines.

After partial rebuild the engine went to the chassis.
    Looks like a porcupine.
We found a nice position for the V12 heart of he Hot Rod.

New friction for the clutch and restored gas tank cap.
The gas tank will be custom made to fit the rear of the body.

I noticed that the clutch disc does not have any antichatter springs.

Loving this build. Interesting tidbit @Bones - this is the same procedure used for checking airplane mags. On piston engine aircraft, there's 2 plugs per cylinder, ran off 2 separate mags. On startup, for your pre-flight inspection you always run on each mag by itself and note the RPM drop (should be about 50-100 rpm if memory serves...). Taking one mag out of the equation tells you a lot about how healthy everything else is.

No, this is a Seagrave engine. The Auburn-based V12 firetruck engine was used by American-La France. Here is an Auburn-derived ALF V12:
    upload_2019-9-9_5-14-38.jpeg
(The Auburn 12 was smaller than this and had one spark plug per cylinder) The Auburn/Lycoming 12 had horizontal valves, sort of like a late Oakland V8.
The Pierce-Arrow design that Seagrave used probably had more performance potential.

Find a new ser of head gaskets is like find a oasis in Sahara desert!
So, we refurbished the original ones using Loctite Cooper Spray.
They where in good shape luckily!

    The gearbox was opened.
No so much damage inside, considering its age.
We made some manual work on the gears and reassembles everything.

I thought about a Potwin style Blower.
Built I decided to keep the project as simple as possible.

Next step was the rear springs.
We made new springs 20cm longer, to put the differential backwards, to increase the wheelbase.

The Seagrave gearbox has open output, and the 1926 Buick driveshaft is of torque tube type.
So we had to do a special treatment for join one with the other.

Amazing Work! It's hard to do things the "right way" here in Brazil but, so far, you are nailing it!

Cheers from Rio Grande do Sul!

I see you have a Model AA split rim spoke wheel on the rear end. Is it bolted or just a mock up?? Looks like a nice wheel. I could use one more.

    V12 plug wires.jpg
Here is a pic of my ALF V12.
Do yourself a favor, when you shit can those old plug wires, get TWO DIFFERENT colors/styles so that you can troubleshoot one ignition system at a time, with merely a glance.
BTW, there is 106' of plug wire on this machine.
Also, post up a clear pic of your distributor cap, top and bottom.
