At the end of that video James is pointing out a pretty good oil leak not profuse but making a mess nonetheless. Of course it is pretty tight down there and hard to see exactly where it is coming from: the fan is not helping matters either.

We fired it again a few minutes later and Dad got his mini-mag light after the source. After a few seconds he waved me over and pointed to a hole in the front cover that was indeed gurgeling oil. Any guesses?

I am going to take a few minutes and catch you up on some of the pre-fire drama that I simply did not have time document during the two day thrash to get the car ready to fire. I took Thursday and Friday off this past week because even though we got a lot accomplished over Labor Day weekend, we still had a long ways to go.

One of the craziest things was the radiator fan (which some of you that follow closely might have noticed is no longer in the engine compartment. You can probably guess the situation that preceeded that move. When I purchased that stupid thing I was animate it had to be a puller. They simply work better and typically (or at least my past experience) have more CFM. Anyway as far as I was concerned over a year ago that is exactly what I ordered (AND INSTALLED). LOL

Well obviously it was not. While testing the relay to make sure we had it wired correctly, the fan comes on and runs. Dad is leaning on the opposite fender and holds a piece of paper up to it and of course it sucks it right up! After doing some research online and disassembly in person, it was obviously not reversable. The only issue is the roll cage down tubes up front. There did not appear to be enough room to slide the unit in up there from the bottom, and there was not. However after sliding it through the nose and manuvering it around a bit it slipped between the bars and the radiator with less than an 1/8" clearance.

Do the dipstick tube at least fit? I just shipped one in because I put mine somewhere "safe" three years ago, and the new SBC one is so loose in the hole that I think I could order another one and install it beside it.

That thing sounds really good... entirely too smooth running for an assembly of all new parts and pieces. Usually my first starts sound like a bag of mashed cats. Congrats on getting closer to the end!

Amazing how much oil can squirt through a small hole, even when not under pressure.

I don't remember that, I do remember asking if the engine had oil, as I was looking for a dipstick. ;)

Randall gave me one at the H.A.M.B. Drags, didn't know I was going to have to work for it. :D
It was fun, and a good challenge always makes it an event. :)
