Thinking about putting a Muncie 4 speed behind my 283 in my 29 sedan. It is mocked up with a short tail TH 350. I know they are the same size. Other option is t5 but I would like to stick with the older 4 speed. Has anyone used this set up. Is the shifter position too far back ? Thanks

I have a Muncie in my 29 roadster . I used a shifter for an early Vette that mounts in the forward holes on the tailshaft. But my car is on a 32 chassis and the firewall is not recessed. maybe if you tried a hurst shifter for a tri 5 chevy with a bench seat it would give you clearance.

I’m running a Muncie in my tudor with a factory Gto hurst shifter. The handle had to be heated up & tweaked a little but it works well.

F59510CD-8037-4C56-AE38-596C5C2AED70.jpeg Muncie in a 30 coupe , 32 frame . I think this is listed as a shifter for a El Camino . It was ordered new from Summit . I had a curved handle but it hit the seat . This shifter also has a tilt toward the passenger so it’s not under the drivers knee .

We've hashed this out many times, mostly the problem is the shifter is under your knee. I set the shifter on top of the trans where it needs to be and then made/ bent linkage to work. mine was easy enough with a " sagi" 4 speed. (reverser is in the side cover) BUT.... another HAMBer (name xcapes me), had the greatest pictures of his comp + shifter set on top of the Muncie and showed how he engineered his linkage. It would be great to see the pictues again

  7. Look at my avatar........M21 behind a SBC in my son's '31 Model A.....I bent the Hurst shifter lever to get it out from under the leg....

327 w/muncie in the avatar coupe. Just put in the bench seat (caravan middle seat) with new upholstery by my Wife. I have an Ansen pedal set-up and am fairly short at 5'8". The shift handle is a #4331. IMG_1991.JPG

Maybe this larger image will help.......picked up the longest Hurst lever I could find at Hershey one day ($5.00). I made the offset on the shift lever about 4 inches using a hydraulic press.......two 135 degree angles......very slowly so as to not disturb the chrome plating. My son is 6' - 2" and can fit without hitting his leg on the lever. No issue for the grandson either!

It moves the shifter to the center of the car. The handle is what I used by you may need a different one depending on your seating. I had a glide bench with the package tray removed so the seat was all the way back. Sorry I dont have ant pictures.
