  1. Looking great Sid,
How wide did they make the rear wheels? They look awesome. Thanks, another thing to add to my list!

This is reversed eye springs front and rear with a heap of leaves removed. You can go dropped axle with mechanical brakes, believe you need 32 stub axles and brake components. 20190901_164849.jpg

I suppose i’ll give the reversed eyes a try to begin with, even if its said to just lower about an inch or so.

I’d easily part from the running boards, they are only a waste of space right now.

That stance is perfect, i’ll try the reversed eye as soon as i have my A pass the last car inspection!

    Looking great:).
I have a front spring with reversed eyes if you are interested.
i went with the -32 axle only on my car so it's "left overs"

    Where are you located?
Are 1931 fenders the same as -29?
i need a left front fender without spare tire.
Maybe we can work something out.

No. '28 and '29 fenders are the same. '30 and '31 are similar. The early fenders have more curve coming down to the running boards.

Is that the original 2 blade fan I see on the running motor? If so, do some research. They go to pieces at this age. Look great on a garage wall though.

    Two expensive boxes has arrived today;

One from Vallby Speed Shop, including 1 pcs brand spankin’ new Stromberg 97, a single carb Burns intake manifold and a Burns ”whateveryouguyscallit”... :D

The other box from Hells Gate Hotrods, the diy Lake pipe kit.

The hard part is to leave it all alone for a week or something, ’til i have showed the car for the inspectors... ;)

    This weekends ”to-do”:
Build brackets for the registration plates, both front and back.
Get some lighting at the rear plate, fabricate the leather hood straps and finish the grille.

You can run a 34-36 front axle, 32 -34 style perch pins, get or make revers eye main leaf front and back. Check out my build thread on how I did it.

Me neither, but got to let the inspectors do their thing for the last time before i start fiddeling with the goodies. :D

I think the exhaust would cause trouble.

Yesterday was quite a productive day in the garage!
I started out finishing welding the grille, and transfer the small loop to hold the hood in place.

Then i moved on to the ”mr thrifty”-version of hood straps.

I’ve planned to go hood straps on the right side only, as that’s where the action is running a four banger...

As the hood strap kits i’ve seen for sale online is about $280, and i’ve done some leather work before i decided i could cut some expenses here and still get the right feeling.
The springs wasn’t to make at home, they were ordered from the Restauration Supply Company, $25 a pop.
I bought the belts at a local H&M ($12.50 a piece) and the brass screw studs at Panduro for $8.

So, a total of $58 for working hoodstraps.
I used the loops holding the doorstops for now, gotta get new ones when we get to fix the interior.
After i took the picture i aged the straps, a rough sanding and some used engine oil on them. Pics will come up this evening.

As i plan to visit the car inspector next week i have to focus on things they see as important, like registration plate lighting an such...

well darn...... with the beginning of the thread i thought the model A project was going to end with that Jag engine and trans being put into the ford which would be really really cool! still really neat regardless but still that would have been epic!

    Mm, yeah.

It’s not the end of the story with the jag-engine.
I think i’ll go get it soon.

Not to put in the A, but i think it’s way to cool to rot in a field.

    -Oh, yeeeah!

The A has passed car inspection with flying colors, and doesn’t EVER has to go back.
And i have the documents to prove it...
    :)

The car inspector didn’t even have a clue how to start it, so i kind of talked him through the whole inspection. ;)

”No, it’s too old to take an emission test.”
” It’s all mech brakes, no wonder it differs from right and left side.”

    -and so on...

He just nodded and followed my lead, and asked if he could snap some pictures. :)

Hey that's great. Glad the inspection went well.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not digging that number plate mount. Why have a piece sticking down? would it look better the other way up? Like a grille guard?

That said, I'm really enjoying following this thread. The car looks like a lot of fun.

    Mart.

I guess you’re not the only one not liking that mount... ;)
Heck, i’m not sure myself but i had to try.
My thoughts was to mimic the grille and give the illusion of a longer and lower grille.

  25. I thought that too. Maybe if you make that bottom rod go straight across. Like about 1-1 1/2 inches down from the plate. You would still see the rods that match the grille. I was holding a piece of paper over the bottom of it in your picture. Looks pretty good that way because it still matches the grill. Just a thought.
Otherwise, car is looking awesome. Congrats on inspection!

  26. I like the idea for the number plate but I think the pointed end extends too far down. Maybe if the point was 1 or 1.5 inches below the edge of the plate? Car looks great! (And I’ll probably use your method to make a filler for my grill eventually. Thanks for sharing that!)

I like it too but think it should maybe actually copy the grill insert lower shape.
Right now it reminds me of a steam train cow guard, here in the states of course. Still a great idea though.
    Keep up the good work.

Hey, Bud. Your English is fine. Nice find. A good friend recently sold a super '34 4 door to a dude in Sweden. It's totally road worthy with a 350/350, 9" Ford dropout, a/c, discs all around and a beautiful soft red. I'd drive it anywhere. Well, good luck with your project.
