Started cutting out the floor around the trans to mock up the upper reinforcements and make a template for the trans tunnel. Never too soon to figure out where the shifter will need to be and how to mount it. It'll need to be about 7" off the floor about where it sits.

Nice work. Your Cragar banner would look better in my garage!

Nothing earth shattering this weekend, just steady progress. Floor side of the frame reinforcements is done need to pull the drivetrain, flip the frame and do the bottom side reinforcements. Biggest issue will be the tailshaft mount. I'll figure that out when I get to it......

Little (but kinda important) project tonight. Since the roll cage will bolt in, making as a strong of a connection as possible is crucial. These serve 2 purposes..... mounting pads for the front hoop feet and gussets for the front reinforcements. Each hoop foot will actually have 2 bolts straight into the top of the frame rails and 2 into the mounting pads.
My neighbor asked indirectly why I was doing the reinforcements with square tube and isn't it going to look unprofessional. It might, but it started as a street/strip car and having a flat floor would be really nice on a street car. Probably is a bit heavier than round tube too, but all things considered it'll be plenty strong and let me exercise a little creativity.

Here's the upside and downside to holiday weekends. I have 3 days to get a bunch of work done on the '32, but don't have enough material on-hand to make a few things I wanted to.
I'll pull the engine and trans tomorrow to mount the line lock and plumb the front brakes, but had enough time today to plumb the rear. Tuck it in nice and tight, but leave enough room for other things trying to occupy the same space.

My New Age Motorsports body uses steel plate for the same purpose. They use what they call a "half cage" to support all the hinges, latches and bracing for the body. Works out nice for grounding locations and all your body mount bolts go thru that same plate to tie everything together. One of the reasons I went with their body for my build.

Same concept, but figured a full cage would work out well. No wood to mess with (or the weight), and once the bars are bent I can do the finish welding bolted on but with the body off. Just once I have to run it without the body on.

So far today...... got the eng/trans out, line made from prop valve to line lock. Probably put them back in to save a little room in the garage, but that won't stop me from making the last line from the line lock to front "T".

Got the front brake lines done today. Only one left is on the rear axle but that can wait until I decide what to do about the axle housing reinforcement. Not brain surgery but just clean.

Bounced back to fabbing the middle harness tabs and got them tacked in double-double shear (kind of). Not a lot of room so hopefully it passes tech.
Still going to make this street legal just 'cuz and it'll be fun to have a passenger when I putt around.

Nothing crazy new but progress none the less. Brakes are done (fab-wise) after making the rear line and tacking the hose mounting plate to the housing. bline5.jpg bline6.jpg bline7.jpg bline8.jpg
Next up is make up the seat brackets for the passenger side. It'll be a little cozy with 2 in there, but that's alright. frm13.jpg

What is the manufacturer of the steering rack your using? Uinisteer? What your impression so far?

It's a unisteer. I have one in the '31 and like it for the most part. The biggest drawback is the slow steering rate, but in this application it may work to my advantage

Since the fuel pump is mounted to the body, I need to have a flexible connection to the hardline fuel line down the frame rail to the engine. The transition is cleanest with an AN bulkhead fitting, so tonight was..... wait for it..... BRACKET TIME! I'm kind of threading a needle going between the coilover and rail (it's not as tight as it looks), so a secure mount for the bulkhead is essential. I'll drill 3 holes (one in each tab) and plug weld it to the rail and crossmember. When the hardline is in and secured to the rail, it's not going anywhere. And yes I need to get more material again to get more substantial things done.... fline1.jpg

Now that we're into Fall, I've had to move the '31 back in the garage. That means mid-week work is now just little projects I can do in little space and try to do what I can on the weekends. Kinda pushes my schedule out until Spring now so frame work is delayed a few months.
First keep busy projects was make a license plate light holder since there aren't any acceptable off-the-shelf pieces. An easy way to hide the fuel pump, too. Cover your eyes as there is non-traditional lighting ahead.

Started on the braces for the 4 link brackets (excuse the tie wraps). When I have more time (and room) I'll make the forward braces that'll transfer the load forward on acceleration.

Only part below is the bottom of the 4 link bracket on the axle where the wheelie bar mounts. Haven't made up my mind to grind it off or go 16" wheels.

With the passenger seat in place I know where it'll go now, but now that the body is back on until Spring I can't do much more.
We met with the architect a few weeks ago and he's drawing the plans for the 2,016 sqft 2 story garage at the other house. My time is better spent at this point getting that built and delaying the car than beating my head against the wall getting little done. Working on electrical, utility and lift location now. Even have room to put a 40' toy hauler inside......

No progress on the car (as expected), but my architect and the city finally get it! Had to kill 133 square feet to pacify the building dept, but I should be able to work with 1,885 sq ft.

Just when you thought it was dead......
The chrome spoke Cragars are headed down under (thanks Karl... send pics!) and the '32 is on jackstands, so new shoes are in order. First is get the wheels on order and the rears came in first from American Rebel. 15x12" polished Sprints on the rear are required for the 32-13/15 Hoosiers. Fronts will be here in a week or so.... 15x4.5" Starbursts will have 15x5" Hoosiers race fronts.
It's always on of those "oh and" things. Can't run these wheels/tires without long wheel studs, so out came the axles. Oh and the seal was bad so had to press off the axle bearing and collar first. Have to run open end lug nuts too, so.
    Love wheel porn!

Wicked! I love the look of long studs hanging out of the lug nuts. Kinda takes the "streetrods" outta things quick.

Between going tall tire and parallel 4 link this isn't a poser. I might throw some stock valve covers on it and "under estimate" the cubic inches if asked. ;)

Still enjoying and envying not only the build but your attention to detail.
You made a comment earlier about the BMW guys at a cruise in, here it's the Corvette group that are a real PITA.
