...I have a 32 3w coupe with a 32 boxed frame. I have to mount the running boards and I have NO brackets or braces and all that I see on the web will not work on a box frame. I can see how the fenders will secure to the frame and the running boards but not the running boards to the frame. Will some one post some pictures showing brackets/braces used to mount the running boards to the frame?... The running boards DO NOT have any brackets or traces where there may have been.... thanks miller
..that is what I was thinking...a few pics of what others have done would be a big help...thanks for the reply miller
Will these help? https://www.speedwaymotors.com/1932-Ford-Running-Board-Frame-Rail-Braces,6305.html DRAKE has them too. https://www.bobdrake.com/FordItem.a...Category=1b0939c2-36da-47cc-a4c1-0ab3f7572bb0
The board shown is from Vintique, it has holes but in the vulcanizing process they get filled in as you can see in the second photo. The original running board brackets mounted in the channel of the frame rails and also bolted to the floor pan of the body. They were made that way to resist twist and give more support to the boards. Because your frame is boxed you will have to add spuds to the lower side of the frame rail to bolt the boards on. Mount the rear fenders and when the boards are located you can mark the frame where you need the spuds. The spud will be round, threaded for the bolts and have a flange to weld it to the frame.
Not sure if this would actually work for you as I really don't know how 32 Running Boards bolt up to the frame rails. But It might give you an idea. I made my own running board brackets when I built my 35 Ford PU. Here is a post to see how I did it. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/tech-running-board-brackets-35-ford-pu-type.276466/ To bolt them to the frame, you could just drill a large hole (big enough to fit a nut in), put a nut in the hole and weld it to the frame. Something like this: I have another set of the ones I made for sale if you're interested. Its posted in the classifieds.
I have these two for you if you think they will work. I think they were on a 1930 Dodge Brothers. They need some TLC....
The ones I have done , just bolt to bottom of frame and either trim those two tabs off or let them hangout
....Thanks to all for the info and pics...as I stated in the OP I have a boxed frame. After looking at the pics I think I will make them...again thanks to all...miller
My frame isnt boxed, but theres no reason the running board brackets i made couldnt just be welded to the frame instead of bolted (I welded the bottom one backwards by accident) Looking up at the underside
