I've heard of using jeep seats and also Astro van 2nd or 3rd seats. Sloppy, that was one nice score, those are good looking seats. I'm going to wait until winter and make some kind of change. I can sell the Speedway seats and tracks. I added extra foam to them before I put the covers on and they are pretty comfortable, they just set to high.
Hey Phil, what did that seat come out of ? I know you said a Jeep, but got any more details? Does it fit in the original seat frame ?
When I was putting my roadster together Mike Bowling said "use the middle seat from a Caravan from the junkyard but get the one that folds down" I had to look into MANY minivans to find one that folded down. As stated in above posts, some do and some don't. Some have the built in child seats with extra seatbelts, etc. For a coupe or roadster these are great. They are comfortable and you can peel the cover off and shave the foam to suit. For a sedan, that'll be up to you as passengers will have to skootch over the folded seat. Good luck
Aftermarket Jeep seats. Replaced these with highback CJ-7 seats that have adjustable/folding seat backs.
Vic you mention the C3 Vette seats. here are the seats in my Model A sedan which has a pretty severe 6 3/8" chop. The C3 seats worked great for me. The bad thing about them is they are high backs. I upholstered these seats myself and it was my first time doing any type of upholstery. Since than I have found another pair of these seats and I am cutting them down to be low back's.
1987 BMW 3 series seats are 21" wide, sit low and have great sideways support. This one is manual but the later such as 1993 have electric controls. Shown without the head rests. This was my first upholstery job and was surprisingly easier than it looks.
Repops, too, I understand. Do you know if those are any good? My dad had an E30 at one time, very comfortable seats with a nifty folding-back mechanism. I was eyeing them for the Morris Minor (they'll fit). But even E30s are getting thin on the ground now.
I used angle iron and slotted the front hole allowing me to tilt the seat back. But mine is not channeled and I still have to slump down in the seat...
A friend told me today he found 2 BMW seats for his truck project. I wish there were junk yards around like there used to be. I'm still looking, I'm going to check out his and do some measuring.
I was thinking of using a school bus seat. One of the side exit short seats. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
For bench seats, the Caravan middle seat is probably your best bet. For individual seats like I wanted, I had a real had time finding anything that would fit, and was within my price range. I'm glad to have found these, they fit the bill in every way. Great size, very sturdy/strong (though kinda heavy), and great price for a new upholstered/cushioned seat. https://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_8264_8264
Has anyone seen the Smittybilt seats? I can't find any ads for them that has measurements. I found them on Ebay as low as $99 a piece with free shipping. I'll try and get a pic.
I went with padded tractor seats. I wanted to get as low in the car as possible which also gave me much more leg room for my 6' frame. They came with two studs on the bottom. I made a custom bracket to set the angle just right. They are very comfortable for what they are an about $40 each. I will design and build something padded for the back.
Stock A Tudor seats. They bolt in with NO modifications, they tilt and fold forward for back seat access, and they're traditional.
How comfortable are original seats; assuming they have been rebuilt with springs, foam, upholstery, etc.? The A sedan I just acquired has a pair of buckets out of something (who knows what?) but I'm thinking I'd like to find original front and back seats for my '31 2-dr sedan.
We are using the stock seats. I like the vintage look and have put 3500 miles on this year. They are not as comfortable as a newer seat, but not terrible. I went 3 hours away a couple weeks ago and was ready for a break, but mostly for a bathroom break. I made simple T brackets with holes from front to rear so after pulling a couple pins, I can adjust seat forward for wife or back for me. Sent from my SM-G950U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Those look very nice, but way too thick & tall for me to use in my pickup, they take up a lot of needed leg & head room.
I actually bought a pair of Cobra style buckets off Craigslist, and installed them, and I both loved and hated them I loved the way they felt, super comfortable, but way too think and tall. I ended up pulling them out and installing the forklift seats I posted about earlier. They are not nearly as nice as the Cobra seats, but the added leg and headroom makes up for it. Here's a comparison shot from above of the 2. I relisted those Cobra seats on Craigslist and sold them for just about what I had in them, I cut the buyer a discount just to make sure they sold, I didn't want to get stuck with them.
That's the problem with these Speedway low back seats, I put a little extra padding in them and they are real comfortable but to tall and I lost leg room.
This is the latest addition to the Model A. I actually had both the rear and middle seats from a Caravan. They both folded and the rear was adjustable. I combined the two, so now the seat can be adjusted. At present it's a little too tall, but it sure is comfy. Another thing that I found out was that the handle on the side of the seat needs to be flattened, which can be done after removing it. Any questions, I'm here every day. Happy Motoring, Carp.

Tudor. Chevy 2 dr. Cavalier seats. Fold forward for rear access. Plenty of cavaliers still in the junk yards.
