  7. O.K. I drove 3 hours to see this 65 dodge Polara station wagon. It was way out in the woods. The interior was trashed, when the guy went to start it the gas pedal went thru the floor{rusted out}It had a miss in it, need an exhaust system and when I looked under the car oil was just pouring out of the back of the motor. He said the gas tank had a hole in it but it could be repaired. Yea the hole was bigger than my fist and it looked like the way the car sat the shocks and rusted thru the floor. I nicely told the guy I was going to pass on it and drove another 3 hours home.I might have to look for something newer. Bruce.

I saw some stuff at the Gear Jam today. I put pictures on the thread that is linked in my signature. There are cars and the for sale signs.

Be patient, Bruce. You can always buy the wrong car later.

You need to either ask a lot more questions or see more detailed pictures or both!

Bruce . I feel your pain . I built cars for people for over 30 years and I still cannot believe that people think rotted out crap sitting in the weeds is worth 3500 to 5000 . even if you can do all the work yourself you will stick another 20 grand plus in making a nice "driver" out of it! Have you priced the machine work and parts for a small block Chevy or Ford lately, let alone a Buick , Olds or Pontiac or some of the less common cars ! And then there's paint, interior and chrome! Should have keep that 55 or 56 Buick you had! lol Oh well can't go back. Best wishes and best of luck.:):) Larry

  19. Slopok, I didn't take pictures of that Polara station wagon, because I didn't want the guy to feel any worse because I turned him down. If I see a nice one you will see pictures. Thanks Bruce.

Larry, the 56 Buick wagon I had turn out to have a bad motor and trans in it.I found a guy in Knoxville that had a motor and trans for it. After 3 years of changing every thing I found that motor had 2 bad cylinders{the trans was good} I got a price of just parts for a rebuild of the motor and it was $3,500 just for the parts not including the rebuild. It also had electrical problems and would leave me stranded a lot of time. I was really happy to see that one go down the road. P.S.I almost gave the car away to a young kid over in N.C. He wanted to know why I was selling it so cheap. I told him about the electrical problems and he said he didn't care and bought it any way. Thanks Bruce.

Me Too!! But it has to be a GM wagon, no rust, running and driving with cherry interior and new tires and brakes. Thank you in advance.

I meant for YOU to look at more pictures BEFORE you go to look at another car and waste 6 hours or more of your life that you'll never get back. And ask more questions about rust etc.
