Who did you buy the wood from? Wondering if they have the floor reinforcement pieces also?
    Thanks,
Oh, by the way ALL of these pictures are helpful!

I bought the roof ribs from classic wood products located in Greensboro, NC. I was fortunate and didn’t need the floor supports. I would think if they had a pattern, they could make them. Below is their website. They’ve been very helpful in the past with questions.

Decided to rework the door. I think I’m happier with these results.

Also did a little paint blending on the cowl vent I welded in. I think it’s going to work....barely noticeable where the paint blend is.

Plan is to spray the roof during the long 4th of July weekend. I’ll also finish buffing the cowl and firewall so I can set the body back on the frame.

Here’s a close up of the blend. Does anyone know if a light coat of lacquer thinner will help it blend? My blend on the drivers side is better than the passenger.

  5. ... I used to blend in paint by first rubbing out the existing paint with a paint compatible compound ( Meguires no7) ... then overlapping the blending edge with same color lacquer before flashing that edge with lacquer thinner when the paint is still wet ... then rubbing it out a couple of weeks later ...

Ok, so polish the existing paint (no wax of course). Paint new area and feather into the old paint or create a hard stop? When you say flash, exactly what do you mean? Is this just a light coat of lacquer thinner at the blend line?

I feel like the drivers side is less noticeable than the passenger side. I think I feathered the paint out more on the drivers side vs the passenger side where I feel I had a hard stop. Think a coat of lacquer thinner now will do anything?

  7. ... Feather new paint into the old paint ... then I would have another gun or cup ready with lacquer thinner only ... and give the whole area a pretty good shot of thinner right after my last coat of the blend job ... I would polish the old paint AND the newly wet sanded primer where they meet with the Meguires no.7 for a nice smooth surface before painting the new topcoat ... When you hit it with thinner you could see the blend line kind of melt into the old paint ...
... Don't think Shooting the thinner on it now will do much ... The trick is to flash it when it's wet ...
( I'm not a pro painter ... I just experimented with this method and it worked for me) ... hope it helps ...

She’s all one color again. I’ll determine how successful I was after the first cut and polish.

1935streetrod, your blend technique worked beautifully. All 4 corners of the roof have a nice feathered blend of new into old. I did a quick wet sand this morning.

  11. ... Black is toughest color to blend besides silver ... You will probably still be able to see where the blend stops somewhat after you rub it ...

    Update!!

Had a little time after work so I decided to sweat my ass off polishing the coupe. To say this turd really polished up would be an understatement.

@1935streetrod - Your technique for paint blend was absolute magic. I know you said it would still be noticeable, but damn....I’m not sure I can even find it. Here’s a photo of your technique vs my first attempt at the cowl.

I can’t find the blend line with your approach! I really appreciate the advice.

I’m getting really stoked seeing the old girl showing her age so beautifully.

Working on the drivers side at the moment. Here’s the latest.
Really liking this Wizards Mystic Cut Compound. It’s really bringing this old lacquer back to life.

    Update:
Believe it or not progress is being made weekly, I’m down to some of the work that just doesn’t photo well. But anyway, here it is.

Body has been polished and waxed. Door handles and mirrors have been installed.
    6740651E-5291-416B-A4BE-DDEBE9CC3E1C.jpeg 218FE32E-17F7-455B-AF32-5E51741F19C0.jpeg 9F827D10-54C2-4ED4-B326-CF66BFD8EC41.jpeg 590FDE28-D62F-452A-944E-8D725E99BC8A.jpeg A7130D5C-94A4-4B16-B3E8-E30EB15352BE.jpeg

Original firewall pad has been cleaned, ‘rebuilt’ (original hardboard re-glued to the outer covering) with new jute pad and installed using the original firewall clips.
    7D9A1F67-0855-4378-8A1B-5201ED2CB4A8.jpeg

Seat has been covered and new door glass has been installed. I also added the lap belts to the seat base (just feels safer with the kids).
    E1F246E5-2BE5-4694-BAD9-A284D93CBC7F.jpeg

Original windshield and frame have been installed with new rubber seal.
    548929C1-758E-4136-A0D1-ACAAED6AFE2F.jpeg

Besides that, I’ve started to insulate the interior with ‘Mighty Mat’.

I also needed to redo a couple of brake lines for the Early V8 Garage Kit. Dennis and Richard were extremely helpful and this brake kit is top notch.
    59F40198-67E6-4316-98A5-FEAB546D409E.jpeg

The last chassis hurdle is to find a solution to the Waldron exhaust pipe around the Early V8 garage brake kit. My first attempt wasn’t successful. Once that’s complete there is nothing stopping the body from going back onto the chassis.

  18. coming along really nice ,,keep the updates coming

Original garnish moldings and dash have been lightly wet sanded, washed and prepped for clear coating. These will be the only items that receive a clear coat treatment. I’ve included a photo of the glove box door wet with water to show what they will look like after shooting. I’m planning to get a chance this week....we’ll see how this pans out.

Ok, so I didn’t get around to spraying the clear; weather just wouldn’t cooperate. Instead I spent a rainy Saturday completing the exhaust for the left side. A friend came over with a tubing bender and we hashed it out.
    74FEA79E-CFD0-4F0C-A546-B705CB541616.jpeg
The tube tried to collapse at one spot, but we were able to catch it in time. When you have so many compound curves, it became difficult to get the outside die close enough to the inside die to make the radius. Anyway, it’s breathing free and no leaks. Also plenty of clearance around that master cylinder and brake lines.

With that complete, I could now install the body. Here’s a video of Dad and I installing the body on the ‘36 in just over 30 seconds :D
I couldn’t believe we got it spot on the first try.

Got the dash cleared and started on polishing the fenders. Fenders have had a repaint at some point in their life.

Haven’t quite finished with the dash, but I had to do a quick install to see how it’s going to look. I deleted the foot activated starter switch, so I had to add a starter button to the dash. I’m also using a dealer installed ‘49-‘50 Ford turn signal switch, so I’ll have the two green jewels on either side of column drop as the indicators.

Still working to get on the road; I feel I’m getting really close now. I took the day off from work yesterday and made some good progress on a few things. Finished the rear wiring harness and license plate mount.

I’m using one of the 4 rear spare tire carrier holes for the wires (nut was removed from cage) and one of the holes to hold the bracket for the license plate light/3rd brake light. There is a rubber pad behind the bracket that helps protect the body and keep the bracket from pivoting. I welded 2 - 5/16 studs (bolts with heads cut off) into the bracket to hold the license plate mount. The bottom two holes of the spare tire carrier are filled with rubber bumpers from McMaster Carr. Originally intended to help support the license plate but they’re doing more to seal the body than support the plate. Anyway, here are some photos from yesterday; you’ll need to excuse the dust that’s accumulated on the car in the photos.

Completed the battery cable routing so I was able to take it up the road this afternoon. Decided to get a couple outdoor shots in as well. Getting real close now.
