I have a 49 Mercury and I have been looking for replacement motors. I am unsure if a Ford Flathead would mount right to my Mercury. ? What are the differences when it comes to transmission, motor mounts etc. thanks in advance for input. / knowledge.

It fits everywhere. Just use your Mercury water pumps.

I have a complete early wide belt Merc with 3 speed O/D trans if you're interested. I had it sold with a small deposit but the buyer hasn't picked it up or responded to numerous emails. That said I'm in Redlands. If you're interested PM me.

Ford flatty will bolt right in if you use the Merc water pumps. The Ford flatty has a 3 3/4 in. crack for 239 cu. in and the Merc has 4 in. crank for 255 cu. in. Plus the Ford engine will have a 3 bolt carb intake with a Ford carburetor unlike the 4 bolt Merc carb. intake with the 4 bolt merc carb.
