My wife where at work and the kids minded their own last night, so i got an seven hour garage session.

I got the head in place, figured out water pump and distributor.
I had to construct new gaskets for the waterpump and cooling water neck at the head.
Luckily i got a big hunk of ”Vellumoid” from work the other year when the boss where clearing out old stuff.

I grinded the end of a thin steel pipe, so i could punch the bolt holes in my new gaskets.

    Enlight123.jpg

Got the new battery installed, the tank flushed and fresh fuel in place.

    And then-

    Testfiring!

Got in the car, ignition on, fuel on, ignition lever in the ”slightly retarded” position i’d seen in Youtube videos.
    Pushed ignition pedal.
The engine turned, but no cigar.

Got out, sprayed some ignition spray in the carburetor and tried again.
    No....

It turned there was no spark, and the coil where to blame.
Luckily i had a identical coil in my garage since i converted my Fleetline -49 to 12 volts, so i switched, and voila!
Both of these are ugly, blue Bosch coils and i have bought a n.o.s Ducelier Comp coil from a guy online, he had this on a shelf since the 60’s.
That one is the one i’ll put on the car as soon as it arrives my mail box.

    Enlight124.jpg

The spark plugs are also in a sad state, so i called it a night.

Today i ordered some new plugs locally, hopefully i get them before the evening!
Also, the lower front radiator hose is blown, and the other two are dried out,so new ones have been ordered.
New fanbelt, a leather waterpump cover, new copper leaves to the spark plugs, new rotor and distributor cap.

Hope to get some hours on it coming evening, can´t wait to get it running!

    Enlight122.jpg

The gameplan for now is to get it running, get the horn and front lights working, and get it through the Swedish car inspection.
I´ll keep it stock, with fenders, ´til i get it through to avoid unnecessary trouble.

Once i get a green light from the car inspection the fun part begins-
    Rodding it.
We have a quite new law , cars older than 50 years are both inspection- and tax freed once it has passed inspection after May 2018!

I got in contact with a guy the other day, he advertised a set of -35 16" wire wheels. I called him up, but by then the wheels were sold.
Anyways, he told me had some fourbanger goodies laying around; A Burns valvecover, a Burns Twin carburettor manifold, and one Burns single carb manifold. And some brand new Stromberg 97´s.
It´s a pile of money to get it off his hands, but i Think i´ll go for the valve cover, single carb manifold and one 97.... It´ll cost me about $800 plus shipping, but i sold my ´49 and got some dough to throw on the Tudor... ;D

    Bummer.
    Still no new ignition parts in the mailbox this friday evening, so i had to focus on other stuff;

One of my friends told me he’d read somewhere that there are new rules for old cars, and those stated that cars manufactured before -53 didn’t need fenders to pass swedish car inspection!

I had a slow day at work, so i eyed through the regulations online.
    It’s true!

Sooo, when i got home i gave the wife a kiss, and down the basement i went!

One of my work buddies are a also a rodguy, he’s been working on his -35 Tudor the past 15 years...his brother has two -35’s, one rat and one shiner. We visited the brother, where i bought a set of four 16” wires, four hubcaps and a cool banjostyle steering wheel, total $250.
I even got the chance to look at their cars, which was inspiring!

I have a thing for banjo-style steering wheels, but haven’t had one in any of my cars.

I didn’t like the height the headlights got with the chrome mounts i bought online, so i welded new, lower ones from the -29 original light bow.

I also had to test out the stance with 16” in the front.
Two of the 16’s is really rusted by the outer rim sides, so i got two 16” Volvo steel rims in the trash at work, and left it to a guy who will cut and widen the wire wheels with new volvo steel. :)

I also placed a order from classic tyres.com in England.
    Firestone w.w 5.50 front, 7.00 rear.

Yesterday i lifted the cab at the right side, so i could get rid of one splash apron.

    Left side this evening!

    Thanks!
    It´s a great project!
I haven´t ever had such a great car to start out with, it´s usually weeks of welding rust and fixing brakes and stuff before starting the fun bit, but in this it was directly to the gravy,so to speak. :)

    Oh, yes!
Yesterday was my birthday. (I’m really not a fan of b-day celebrations, especially not my own)

My wife worked evening, i hadn’t invited anyone so down in the basement i went!

I finally got mail delivery, a box including new radiator hoses and all ignition parts i needed!
    So-
    The best b-day present i could ask for;

Tiny, but oh so important update-
The new Firestone white wall tires has arrived from England!

    5.50/16 front, 7.00/16 rear.

Hopefully the rear rims are widened and done monday, so i can get’em blasted and painted.

Can’t wait to get the new wheels in place!

    Major set back time...

I got the latest package in the mail today, including some graphite lining and a new rod for the water pump, hoping i could take the A for a little spin today...

Well, i dismantled the old water pump, put the new rod and lining in, got the right amount water in the system-

    Success!

Started her up, backed her out of the basement.
Then she started stalling, some backfiring and stopped.
If i pulled the choke rod and pushed the starter, she’d start, but choked and died as soon as i layed my foot on the accelerator...
I figured there may be some rust flakes in the fuel system, which proved me right after i disassembled the carb.

After cleaning the carb and pushed some compressed air backwards in the system she worked fine again.

I took the filter out from the filler neck and looked in the tank with a flashlight...
Holy smokes, the tank has a thick layer of rust and debris!

Anyone have a smooth way to flush it?
I tried to loosen the valve and drain it, but there’s so much junk left...

Removing the tank doesn’t look like an easy task.

Anyways, i’ll paste a pic of the new water pump rod, which was a succes... IMG_3950.JPG

    Thursday update....

It’s been slow in the garage for a while.
Flushed the tank with the garden hose for hours, drained it, put the heating gun in it to dry it out, and when it was completely dry i took a thin hose to the vacuum cleaner to get the last fine dust out of there.
Ordered a filter to put in the tank, and a glass sediment bulb to replace the cast iron one.
Blasting the rims moves extremely slowly, i’ve finished one and a half rim on the lunchbreaks since monday...

Yesterday the filter parts arrived, and also a fiber glass -32 radiator shroud.

Me and my wife has been looking at a property two evenings this week, which we really hope to buy!
For example, it has a really nice garage, 12*6 meters with a 5 meter roof height and concrete walls and floor.
Perfect to invest in a two pillar lift!
(Now i have a 6*3 meter garage with 2,4 roof height...)
There’s also a big barn/stable for the wife to get some horses, and a 320 square meters house.

Really hope to get it, had to lowball the real estate guy... :)

    Monday update;
Got hold of some 6 mm round steel bars and started out welding grille bars.
I bought all 8 meters they had in store, but ordered additional 40 meters, to be delivered wednesday/ thursday.
It was real fun welding, bummer i didn’t have enough material!

I finally got the rims blasted and painted during the weekend, and left them to the tireguys at work this morning....

    Holy shit, she’s running high!

Whats the solution to get a lower stance, but keeping the mech brakes...?
Dropped front axle is out of question with mech i suppose...?

It's been done.. Not by me but I'm sure I've seen threads on the subject.

Edit: Nothing wrong with high, though. don't rush into anything.

I think there's a guy on here that goes by 100% Matt that sells reverse eye main leaf springs (maybe it's the entire lowered springs, I forgot) for the A front and rear that will help. I'm going to get those for my 29 Tudor when the time comes. If we were closer I would try to deal you out of your old running boards for my car. Your English is just fine, the project is great, thanks for sharing. It can't be easy building an American hot rod in Europe. Kudos to you.
