Hot Rods Holley 600, rebuild or get a new one?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by andydodge, Aug 25, 2019.

  1. The 600 Holley I have is starting to show its age, and I'm tossing up whether to rebuild it which will include the throttle shaft.......its a vac sec that's near enough to 40yrs old and I'm wondering how the new style 4150 aluminium versions compare.........here in Oz the rebuild bits and throttle plate will leave no change from $200.........a new alloy 600 is around $450.........the engine is a mild 318 Poly on a Weiand 7503 intake.......and yep its mounted backwards which its has been for 40yrs.....lol......appreciate any comments re the rebuild/replace choice.......thanks.....Andy Douglas

That one sounds like it's shot.... Get a new one.... I'd keep the old one for spare parts... ;)

Quick Fuel makes a really good 600 vacuum carb. That Summit carb they bought from Holley is a great street carb.

I do not, but just recently found out that some of the new ones do not have externally adjustable floats, which is a Holley feature that I like.

Andy, just buy a new one. They have a lot of features the old ones didn't. The Mustang has an alloy one with no problems.

    What " features" are worth $250 ???

  11. I just rechecked the going price for a throttle base.......$250 Oz, $55 for the rebuild kit, postage would be about $30........at least $335, maybe $350........the new ones starting to look good...especially the shiney versions.......lol.......and I will want one with the externally adjustable float.............gotta check with the finance director.......lol..........andyd

Do none of the Aussie speed shops stock Holley rebuild kits on their shelves? you quote of $30 seems steep if it's being posted internally in Aus so I guess you were thinking of importing one?

  13. I don't know how it is down under, but the new Holley might be better suited for 90% gas. That said, the newer ones have plastic external parts vs the older models die cast.
