Thanks I’m sure I’m going to need it, I’ve heard the fit is poor at best.

All you get from Howell’s is the outside skin. From what I understand the fit is pretty poor so be prepared to do some work to make it fit. I plan on making a skeleton for it with square tube maybe some angle. There’s an original one on eBay right now ,that’s the second link I posted. The 3rd and last one is an eBay listing from Howells, that’s how I got mine. I understand when you deal directly with them that service can be pretty poor and you’ll have better luck getting one through eBay.

I'm about to try my third go round trying to get my deck lid into shape. My original one looked like an elephant stepped on it so getting it to work with a poor fitting skin has been a challenge. I noticed in a magazine feature on a T coupe that had the deck lid made in two parts with an upper piece that mounted solidly to the body like the tulip panel on a Model A and a deck lid without that troublesome reverse curve. Suggested this to a friend with a T coupe and his turned out great. Meanwhile, I'll keep up fighting with mine. T deck lids do not hinge like other cars. They rely on a hinge pin on the side of the lid about 5 or 6 inches down from the top so that upon opening the top edge goes down when the bottom comes up.

Goldmountain I’ve thought if making 2 pieces. The gas tank will most likely fill the upper part anyway no reason for that part to open up. You got any pics of you progress on your deck lid?

I took my Howells deck lid and cut it into two pieces and welded the top piece in. I then hinged the bottom piece to it. It was the only way I could make it work at all. It's not perfect but it came out ok. I have a build thread posted if you want to look at pics

Thank . I made a beginner's mistake and changed tire size after I modified the frame. I dont have a full spring pack on the back so hopefully a few more leaves will make the top of the wheel well align with top of tire

I would see how it rides before adding springs. I think it looks fine the way it is.

Howell will sell you a complete deck lid or the inner or skin. I bought my skin and inner in two pieces and put them together my self because my body was so bad I knew I was going to have trouble fitting it up. I don't think I could of with a complete piece. Making it fit was maybe the hardest part of the entire build. DSCN1120.JPG DSCN1124.JPG

T skele.JPG hought i would throw this picture in.

  29. The complete deck lid they sell doesn't fit anything very well. It is flat along the edge the hinges are on (across car), but the tulip panel has an arch to it. Ask me how I know.

I am living in denial until I reach the point where I have to make it fit.

That's exactly what I ran into but because I had both pieces I made the outer skin fit the body first. Then I got the inner panel to work more or less and then I put them together. I also had to adjust the panel below the deck lid and even moved the quarters around some. Getting the hinges to work right is another whole problem.
Good luck with your project DesmoDog.
