Probably a Jerico Dr4 or Liberty. Not the most street friendly but who cares.

Yup, Mustang z T5 with a tail shaft from Modern Drivetrain made in USA and puts the shifter forward, instead of a used tail shaft from a S-10. Hoping the hydraulic clutch won’t leak. Now mounted in the chassis

  6. Should run really well,,,I like the valve covers and intake manifold,,also headers.
The frame looks really good as well,,,good work.
As a matter of fact it all looks fantastic,,,good work indeed!

Good choice! I know we are supposed to do vintage stuff on the HAMB, but these transmissions make virtually any engine street able. They handle HP and torque and give your engine the chance to operate at an rpm your ears can stand on the xway.
I always felt that transmission choice was the single most important choice a builder makes.
To me, when you have a manual transmission it feels like YOU are driving the car, when you have an automatic.....you are along for the ride.

Ok so every car I’ve built in the last 25 years has had a stick trans in it even my dragster has a 3 speed toploader from a 57 ford pickup you know the one with a 1 3/8” input shaft it’s indestructible lol so now I build this new Afx car and by the way the original car I cloned had a pushbutton torqueflite I had a couple coworkers finally break me down and convince me this car needed a torqueflite so I stepped up bought all the good parts had to use a later style one cause I couldn’t find a useable cable shift pushbutton one and it’s the biggest pain in the arse I’ve had the thing in and out of the car 6 times for various reasons and mostly it’s been torque converter issues so I’m doin away with that piece of crap and putting a clutch in it like i should have in the first place however I’m gonna do something I’ve always wanted and still run the torqueflite but with a b&m adapter and a scattershield I should have the best of both worlds and if it’s a colossal failure I have a nice 833 patiently waiting it turn lol

Everything that I own has a stick shift. My 55, 57, 59, and 34 Chevys all have M-20 Muncies. My 59 GMC has a Saginaw 4 speed. Just bought a H.D. Muncie 3 speed for my 56 Bel Air Junior Stock drag car project.

My 55 Cameo that I'm finally finishing will be a stick. It'll get a Muncie 4 speed, unless I can find another H.D. Muncie 3 speed. For towing, I'd rather have the lower 1st gear of the H.D. Muncie 3 speed.

Even my daily driver, O.T. 1984 S-10 is now a stick shift. It was a V6 automatic truck when I bought it, and I swapped in the T-5 from my old S-10.

How did you keep the column shifter with the T5 5 speed bolted in?

My next car will be a three on the tree. I would love to get a 55 to 64 GM with a V-8 and a tree on the tree. There's just something about them, the way they seem to grab and hug the road once the clutch is let out.

My cousin had a 61 Olds 88 with a 394 and a three on the tree, two door hard top in a nice blue, he painted the stock wheels gloss black and put chrome lug nuts on it along with duals with can glass packs. Wow was that a nice car!! It was one of those cars that just stays in your mind, nothing special but yet..

37 Packard behind a 308 Hudson Hornet engine. I made the adapter. Close ratio, compact and quite beefy. 1 1/8" x 10 input splines. Same as Chevy. 2nd picture from Wil-Cap site. A ford pick up aluminum trans called a 3 speed plus 4th overdrive. I have one. It is going to be used in my full race p1010185_0001_001_0049.jpg CADDILAC TO 4 SPEED FORD TRANS.jpg 6 carb Cadillac powered 32 roadster

30 years driving big trucks with fuller "road ranger" trans; high gear is in the same spot. to me, it was a good idea--gets the shift lever up and out of the way...

I'm debating T-5 or TKO for my 33. I want something with overdrive. I don't really care for automatic transmissions much, my 33 is the only vehicle I have with one.

7CAFA868-0B27-4DB2-9C80-BC175693AD83.jpeg I’ve had/have a lot of cars with manual transmissions. I guess my favorite was the top loader four speed, second was a top loader three speed wit overdrive! Have one driver with just a three speed. Then I guess it’s truck four and five speeds. But as I get older, I’m drifting to the automatics. My next build is getting a C-6 with a Doug Nash overdrive.

RusTnut : never said the T-5 in the truck was on the column.... I thought everyone knew traditional "old working truck" shifters belong on the floor??

  24. 39's in both my Deuces. Roadster has zephyr gear set and is much better. If I were to build another it would have either an early 4 speed or a t-5 with open drive. Tired of pulling the motor etc. to do anything.

  25. Another thing I happen to have in my hoard. Ive got a 3/4 ton 53 ford and it had a 262 six. and that trans is the larger top loader three speed.

Mine has the same 3 speed floor shifted transmission that was installed in 1937 at the Flint, MI Buick factory.

You guys do know there are at least three viable 4 speed options between those antiquated Ford 3 speeds and the modern 5 speeds right.

  28. Perhaps I should, but don't. How about you enlighten me/us.;)

Just talking availability not peoples' personal economic reasoning.
    1. Muncie M-20, M-21, M-22 and related aftermarket versions.
    2. Borg-Warner T-10, Super T-10.
    3. Richmond Super T-10, a handful of ratio options, all GM based.
Saginaw too but I personally don't count them myself.
Ford T-10 and toploader and Mopar too, even AMC used B/W T-10 4 speeds.
