Thought it would be interesting to see and hear about each hambers story and pics of the why and how's of a replication of a past favorite car, truck, racing car , hauler etc. I know Mr. Moriarty and a few others have great accomplishments. Let's hear yours.

 

Here is my dream . My Dad's 1937 Chevy coupe dirt track racer. I have some parts collected , but aways to go.

I could do his dirt late models but this has always been one of my favorites.

 

'23 dirt track T I built in 2000. Chevy 153" motor hopped up. Been giving thought to another but finding motor would be harder now, as well as money for the Weber DCOE carb package. Street legal

 

That is sweet. Yours just screams cool. Luckily , my plan shouldn't be too expensive just getting the body.

 

The Bob Knaack tubular space frame "T" modified.

 

My goal is to build a tribute to this masterpiece which itself is a homage to prewar cars.

 

My dream come true....I built in '94, throw back to '50's, sports car, aluminum body (I hired out), tube spine frame, sbc, 6 spd, 9" four bar etc., etc. My statement for the "the last open road"......

As a kid reading PHR Project X articles, I was hooked. A friend's dad had a used up '57 race car in his driveway. It was a real disaster, but I built it in my head daily. Then the movie came out while I was in high school, seeing X in action was awesome. Like I was really in awe.
So years later I ended up with the car, and now finally I have my dream car.

 

I saw this picture when I was 10. Starting with this for the Body. It will take years. Parts gathering for the moment.

 

Well, this was result after several complete failures. (Tried fiberglass for body... burned them to the ground...they were terrible). A guy Roy Taylor, in England, ex Rolls Royce panel beater knocked this body out in 4 months. At the time he was 72. Incredible skill and talent. Looks as good underneath as it does on the outside. A wonderful guy.

I was just talking with @alchemy about this at the HAMB Drags the other night. I’d love to clone the Scotty’s T Roadster. My 86 year old Dad has owned the engine/trans from this car for about 60 years. We have both induction set ups. The rest of the car is no more, but really, other than the ridiculous chrome bill, it’s certainly doable since we already have the hard part of the the parts gathering done. I guess I should start looking for a ‘23 T body/deck and a chrome shop.

Some way I would love to see and look over all of your creations.

 

If you could fulfill that dream , I don't think there could be anything better for your Dad and you. Reminds me of Mr. Moriarty's endeavors. It is so awesome that you guys are out there preserving the past.

 

When I purchased my 1932 Ford pickup I had been thinking about the first ground up build of my Model A pickup but I built the Deuce the way I would have liked to build the Model A had I had the money not a clone but it was built as a simple example of what I liked about my Model A.

I'm not a clone fan in the least. Tribute car to a lost car from the past ye s.
Remembering features in magazines on the Sottys T that Russco posted and his dad having the engine makes that a whole different thing entirely. That I really like.
HRP's deuce pickup that carries the same vibe that his A pickup did years ago is cool while not being a clone. I can really see guys building a new same model version of a car they had years ago with the mods they wanted to do then but couldn't afford.

 

That's why I really admire Mr. Moriarty's passion and determination in getting and preserving history.

 

If I could I'd build a replica of Cushinberry's Silhouette

 

Some people really go to extremes, like my pal Ken.

He totaled his 1932 Ford 4 door sedan which he really loved, he suffered a broken wrist and his wife suffered a broken arm,amazing they were able to walk away and didn't end up in a mortuary, it was a horrific accident.









Ken thought he might buy it back and try to repair it but after looking at it again he deemed it too bad to repair it so, he found another body and built another car that is darn near identical to the one he had so long. the major difference is wider whitewalls, these are current photo's. HRP

 

Ouch? Very lucky.

 

The body being aluminum was formed over a wire form as opposed to a wood buck. In the end most of the wire (typically 1/4 tube) was cut away but where the apertures like grill, wheel openings are the panel was hammered over the tube as a return. Three amazings in the end...1) how fast Mr Taylor was, 2) how accurate the body form was side to side and 3) all aceytelene gas welded and planished. Incredible.

Both are fine trucks .

 

A little off topic, but I have always thought it would be cool to own a 1:1 version of the Big Drag from Monogram made in 1/8 scale...

 

I’ve thought about it, but need to win a lottery first!

If I did build a clone or tribute, it would be Fat Jack’s 46/7 /8, I’d do a 47/48. I never cared for 46-48’s much until he built that one, wow, I was hooked on them then. But instead of red, I’d want it black, with the chrome grille and bumpers and deep Polished Torque Thrusts all around.

 

My grandfather and I kicked around building a clone of Taboo in the early 2000's. At that time the current owner was never going to sell it and other family members wanted it, so we looked at the next best thing of building a clone. Well fate worked in out favor and we got the chance to get the real car back.

I would love to build a semi-clone to a 55 Chevy pickup my grandfather built in the early 90's. It was heavily chopped, channeled and sectioned. The bed was more modern with 73 Chevy step side fenders and 68 Firebird tail lights. I want to build the cab forward the same way but then a more traditional bed.
