Just found this thread. A friend has two Sun Valleys, much like the yellow one in the pic. Could be that car. We just did the NSRA nats in Louisville. Will turn him on to this and keep watching. Thanks. I checked with him & it is his ride, the pic is when it was in Washington state.

It will be close to the avatar, but the car will be all black (as of today) was thinking of painting the same color blue I have on the rims? Thoughts??

I'm a HUGE fan of blue and that looks like a great shade coupled with the white behind the glasstop it wouldlook excellent. Kinda corporate colour scheme of Henry.

Here we are laying the frame out and getting ideas on where we are going to notch the frame and set the car up for bags. In addition, we are looking for any damaged or frame rot. You can see in the first picture we are prepping the frame for the new motor mounts.

  9. I hope you ran the vent up before turning it down; failing to put a loop well above the tank can result in a vent that will siphon gas out...

Yes, they are Granada spindles. I picked them up from Auto City Classic Inc.

We laid the new rear-end in place and figured where we would notch the frame and how we would install the bags.

    20150424_172053_zpsoat9as9d.jpg

We decided we were going to go with a 4-link set up

    20150613_112230_zpsk1uuunsr.jpg

We also decided to take 5" round steel and cut it in half to make our notch into the frame.

    20150613_174334_zps3ucwsq0t.jpg

The next step was to cut the frame and weld the halves into place.

nice build, i hope you don't cut the hood for a piece of plexi to fit into. it may just be me but we have a real nice 56 fairlane around here till you get to the hood, most of the top of the hood is plexi it kills the car to me. subbed.

I agree 100% , I think maybe the original ones back in 54 that were in the dealership to showcase the y-block was a good ideal, but not to offer for sale to the general public.

  22. Cool build. Be careful posting the bag stuff it can get this thread deleted pretty quickly here.

Yeah, just delete and avoid the non-HAMB-friendly stuff and you'll be fine.

Been working on the back of the frame for the rear end swap and added new shock mounts.

Also taking time to start filling in holes on the firewall. We will be tilting the hood on the Mercury as the hood hinges on these cars suck. Anyone need some vent tubes????

Dropped a 351W/AOD (hydraulic ) in my 54 using all stock components. Granada disks and GM 605 steering box. All components were bought from a outfit in ND. (since deceased ). Everything fit well with no problems (pan cleared drag link easily ). Attaching the column was troublesome because the 605 box was so close to the firewall. The drivers side exhaust was solved by a Summit employee who suggested headers for a 351W in a Falcon. Fit perfect. Couldn't fit mechanical fan, so used a electric pusher fan. Never any overheating problems, but no A/C. Have put 10 thousand miles on it with no problems. Sweetest sounding pipes with 26" Smittys. Good luck

Are you the old allied machine shop dudes? Feel like I looked at an old wagon you were selling a couple years ago. Anyway, cool build... Subscribed

Sweet!!! That's good info! I was just thinking about headers the other night. I wasn't sure if maybe a set of shorty headers from a mustang would work or maybe a set from Sanders. Do you happen to have the part number for your headers? Thanks again for the info!

Ran into a little problem the other night when taking the body off the frame. As you know the car is bagged and slammed, so when building the new rear end we took everything into consideration (WE THOUGHT) , over all length, housing to hosing end, driver / passenger length, etc.
    20150613_112230_zpsk1uuunsr.jpg

My problem was discovered as I was lying on the floor as we were getting the body ready to lift off. I had my wheels on the car and had already cut the inner wheel well out so the body would be able to come all the way down and had enough clearance that the tires would not hit the wheel wells. As I was laying there I noticed I had not had my brake rotors on. This meant that I would need at least another 1/4" of clearance. So off comes the hosing ends and had to shorten the rear-end again. Moral of the story always make sure your rotors are on when setting up your rear end, especially if you need to have clearance from the inner tire wells.

What kind of booster/master cylinder are you using? Did you have to drill new holes or did you retain the originals?
