And now for something completely different; a 1961 Corvair sedan made out to look like a Police car. Of course the Castle Rock reference is from a TV show (Twin Peaks?). Yes, it has lights. Yes, it has a siren. No, you can't use them on any roadways as that would be a very bad thing. But I can cruise the cruise night parking lots and have some fun... DSCN3749.JPG

  6. That's what I figured. What mods did you make? Are they outlined here somewhere, and I missed them? This is, after all, a twelve(!) year old thread...

Did you take out the rear glass for access? Trying to figure the two openings.

I realize that FOMOCO supplied cars for Mayberry RFD but this car has Barney Fife written all over it.

A TH425 is almost completely a TH400, in terms of rotating parts.

The one-way parts are installed backwards.

It is really a lot like the engineers took a razor blade to the blueprint, and rearranged existing parts.

    hrm2k -

Be careful with that car..! If your engine has any power at all, your front tires won't spend much time on the asphalt.

Years back, I went with my brother to look at a whole Olds swap into a 67 Corvair. 425 Trans. axle and engine.
The owner told my brother not to floor the gas pedal until they were on a straight road. The guy finally let my brother hit the gas hard. We were all looking at nice blue sky after he did..!
And this was a STOCK Olds engine. Sure, it had 425 some cubic inches, but it was...stock. No headers, no fancy aluminum intake manifold, no big Holley carburetor...

    Just a heads up...

IMHO, there has been no post-war American car with better styling than the second series Corvair coupe.

First plc - Yenko Stinger, one of about 50 Corvair-based road racing sports cars.

Second pic - Corvair drag racer, seen a few weeks ago at the Orange/Sterling MA Nostalgia Drags.

Third pic - German NSU TT 1200, a reduced scale copy of the early Corvair.

Fourth pic - Bobsy sports racer, powered by a Yenko Stinger 3 liter Corvair engine.

Here is a Corvair-powered dune buggy set up for drag racing. The engine is a 1964 Corvair 110 HP 6 cylinder with a 2-speed Powerglide transaxle. The front end is VW torsion bar with spindle mount tires (no brakes!). Today we got it running again and hope to do some testing before the summer is over. 20190817_181647.jpg

  20. I bought a 65 Corvair convertible three years ago to set on the back burner. Id really love to have it on the road for next summer. I have had zero luck finding someone to rebuild the 110 that's in there. Im not looking for any kind of performance I'm just looking to have a fun little car I can reliably cruise in coast to coast and everywhere in between. Its a powerglide auto car. Ive talked to club folks and internet people looking to find someone to do a high quality job on a rebuild, zero luck. I even had the president of one of the clubs, sorry don't remember which it was. Older sounding fella give me a call and tell me the best thing to do is drive mine until it dies (its dead) and then just find a used motor somewhere and swap it out ... Weird.

  24. Nearly four grand for 140 H.P., good reason for a V8 swap!

Looking at the license plate, did this belong to Chris who owned Fubar Exhaust in California decades ago?
