Terrific - Thanks for link - looked more like snow than firm salt - friend said that the wait to run was close to 6 hours at times

I arrived at Bonneville Monday afternoon & stayed through Wednesday afternoon. By Wednesday the pits looked like a ghost town with many competitors having left already. The wait to get a run in was terrible, one friend running his 1946 Hudson had waited in line over 7 hours on Tuesday before they shut down racing around 3:30pm due to the conditions. Two cars spun and one bike lost it too, fortunately everyone was fine. Wednesday morning my friend was 1st in line & it still took until 8:30 for their run. When I left they were only running the rookie lane and one of the two regular lanes & things were still moving at a crawl.

    Here’s a few pictures I took:

Thankfully I have one of the sign as I’d read it was cut down yesterday!

Thanks for all the great pics! We were there from Thursday night until late morning Monday but had to head home. Toured the pits and had plenty of fun at the car shows at the Nugget. Was sad about missing the racing but that's just part of the experience. As usual, will be back next year.

Outstanding photo coverage... Curious if anyone knows how Bill Cobb's black '50 Chevy fleetline #900 XO/PRO did. A 235/261+ 6 cylinder guy, hope he's running really fast... Dyno Dave

Dyno Dave, I believe this is your guy? I spoke to him after his 1st run & the car wasn’t quite fully into the pits area yet. Very nice guy, he let me close his open car door to get a good shot.

That's the ONE, we had met several years ago at area swap meets as Bill sells vintage Chevy 235/261 parts. Had talked on the phone recently, and he mentioned his '50 Chevy Bonneville car. It looks like he made just one run, hopefully it was because of the bad weather and not troubles with the Fleetline. Thanks so much for posting the outstanding photo.. Dyno Dave

Seems to me guys gave up and came home early with short course cars. On Thursday one competitor made 10 runs and there were guys with 4-8 runs. Granted these cars are all under 175 mph but there are more records under than over 175. There is a lot to be learned by seat time at Bonneville especially with multiple drivers..

Great pictures Brian! It was also great meeting you in person.
I will be starting my Speed Week 2019 thread shortly. I did not stay for any of the racing unfortunately. Had to be home by Tuesday at the latest. Still got some decent shot though.

Couldn’t resist getting a picture of my old trusty truck. At 192k over 14 years, I owed her a nice picture on Bonneville Salt Flats.

Bill got to lands end at 5:30 am and they opened up the salt at 6:30 to get in line for 7:30 to start running. The crew went directly to their pit and towed the car to the starting line and found 55 cars and 19 motorcycles ahead of them in line ! It took from then until 1 pm to get up to the line. Bill said the car pulled hard and he was up to 124 at the first mile, after that the course just fell apart. It was so rough that the car vibrated enough that he couldn't read the numbers on the 2 and 3 mile markers. They were orange and black blurs. He had to back off and went through the 3 at 114 mph. We had hoped to run Saturday thru Monday and pack up. I had commitments and couldn't stay through Tuesday so left. Bill also had commitments but decided to run Tuesday to feel out the new engine. His pit was right at the 3, so he just pulled in at the end of his only run, loaded up and headed home. I asked him about World Finals and he said he had to let his bank account recover for a while before running again. We were all excited about running the new motor and we're busy meeting and greeting folks all the time we sat in the pits waiting for Mother Nature to heal the salt, but alas no matter how much we pleaded, she ignored us. If the salt is good next year, I have no doubt Bill will put the car in the record books. It was very promising. I hope that answers your question .
