There is one down the street that I have worked on. I hammer formed a 32 style dash for it. He has a 2.3 Turbo 4 out of a Supercoupe in it, 5 speed trans, and an 8.8 rear. It is definetly a Hot Rod.

A guy with one is still better off to show up with one at a hot rod event than a Model A restorers event. At least we will just sluff it off as a kit style car and maybe try to think what it would take to make a presentable car out of it.

Not worth trading the Pontiac for but if a guy could pick one up for the right price, put dropped spindles and steelies on it it would make a fun little good weather daily driver that was pretty reliable and cheap to drive.

The Shay is more reliable, faster, cheaper to maintain, and better driving than the original. So traditionaly speaking, get the original.

    Pinto's didn't have frames.

Sure there is, one is a clone the other has been upgraded. Put a tri-power in a Goat & it's still a goat. (albeit non-original) but 442 badges on a cutlass & it's just a clone and will never be worth the price of a 442.

No I don't. But there was a picture of it in one of the Magazines, I think Hot Rod, identifying it as a Model A.

I think you guys are being a little hard on the Shay. It doesn't look exactly like a Model A, but a few changes here and there and it's close. I always thought that they did a particularly good job on the wheels.

This looks pretty damn similar to a Model A to me.

The Scout-based abominations were the Glassics, and I remember when these things trolled the car shows regularly, with proud owners behind the wheel that thought they looked exactly like a real Model A. They made me ill then, and they make me ill now.

    Maybe the roadsters were better:

    Maybe not...

So when the Shay came out, and was sold and serviced by Ford dealers, it was a major step forward in the replica world.

not to offend anyone especially the Shay owners but I won't cut anyone down for having any type of machine either genuine, kit car or home made we all come from somewhere and I can remember my brother and me and our first hot rod to us it was the best fun we had ever had. as far as trading I have always said when two people trade and they both are happy that is a good deal.

8 years later? I'd guess he made up his mind by now.

The awful wheels on a Shay are the most obvious clue that it's not a real Model A. The next most obvious clues are the terrible looking tail lights and the Headlights. The car would have looked a lot better with reproduction Model A tail lights. I know the guy who started the Shay Owners Club and sadly he is as messed up as the Shay
