    Just a fun update...

The more the Lancers are on it, the more I like them! I photoshopped a few things I might change, but haven't hit on anything yet that I thought was an improvement.

One thing I did want to try on the Lancers was adding a bullet to the center. So I bought a set of bullets, and put them up against the car to get an idea. They stuck way out and looked silly, so I decided against drilling a hole to mount them up.

Then my dad said we should try the bullets on a set of '52? Pontiac ripple caps I picked up at a swap meet a while back. Not bad! I like it that it's different. They still poke way out there, but it somehow works. They might suit an earlier style build a little better?

Agreed. While they're off the car, I'm going to clean them up a bit before putting them back on. But the chrome steel wheels are still my favorite :)

You could really confuse people and run the Lancers on one side of the car and the Ripple caps with the bullets on the other side. Can't see both sides of the car at the same time anyway.

Great understated car! Makes a car guy question exactly what has been done.

The 56 Lancers are a custom staple. You can't go wrong with them. But your "ripple" covers are also cool. They are 55-56 Pontiac. The ripples are easy to 'color' code to your liking. A shorter, broader center bullet might improve the look for you. DSCN2097.JPG

Thanks for the ID on those Pontiac caps. They were marked either '51 or '52, and the entire time I've had them, I never bothered to verify what they actually came from! That wider, flatter cone is definitely an improvement. I'm still digging through all my old books to come up with something that stands out - hopefully in a good way. :D

How about the bullets with the chrome steel wheels?

  14. I would be curious to know the ages of the people sorted by their preference of rolling stock on this car, Danny. I'm 73 and I like the wires#1 and the Lancers #2.

I'm still toying around with a few options. And I will probably always shift em around a bit, that's part of the fun. :)

I'm 42 and so far I have them at 1. chrome steel wheels, 2. lancers, 3. wires, 4. ripples. Does anyone have a damaged Mark II wheel cover sitting around they want to sell?

^^^^^ Put the comic books down now. That's fine when one is ten years of age.

They say once you close your mind to other possibilities your sense of humor decreases........I don't read comic books I was just paying homage to an iconic custom car and poking a little fun at Gotgas.

I just re-discover this thread, I was following but lost it about a year ago. Your car is amazing. It turned out so well! It's one that I would definitely not change a thing!

Small update, I removed the amateur black carpet rugs from the car and had my interior guy install the Trinidad carpet. It turned out great. He says it's like "looking at a galaxy." :D
