When I bought my hot rod project a couple of years ago part of the reason was to finish the project that he never finished. I wanted more than anything to get it running and take him for a ride in it. Unfortunately the good Lord had different plans. He has been sick for a couple of months now with liver problems and has been more or less in a vegetative state since. Last Thursday my we went to my wife's post op appointment at the University of Michigan where my dad was hospitalized. We had lunch with Mom and she said it's only a matter of time. We said goodbye to dad and about an hour after getting home we got the phone call that dad had been called home to glory.
Most of my early memories were of him and I scouring swap meets looking for that part, working on the family cruiser, or just out for a cruise in the Shelby after church. I followed in his footsteps in many ways, not only because I wanted to be like him, but because we had so much in interest form our career paths, our love of cars, and being the handy man of the house our family was like the real version of Home Improvement.
See ya on the other side ol fart.

I get it. Sorry for your loss, both of my '32 projects are entirely based around If my father was here and helping me.

Him and I were never the most chatty so we never really got into to many in depth conversations, but I think he enjoyed swapping ideas about the 40 and getting to spend what little time he had in the week with his boys.

My sincere condolences. My dad died at 51, when I was 13-years old. I still miss him and how he may have changed the course of my life if he had stayed around. That was 60-yeas ago......

My heart felt Condolences to you and your family.
I know what this feels like, my dad has been gone since '86, my brother and I were by his side. He was never a "car guy" , and we never spent any time together on projects but he kept the food on the table and rain and cold out of our lives.

Those of us that are lucky enough to have had a good dad are truly fortunate. Take comfort in knowing your dad lives on through you and the rest of his family. Sorry for your loss and look after one another.

Thanks everyone for your condolences, and as corny as it may sound writing this out helped me out a lot

  20. Topher I know that the pain is hard right now. I believe that the loved ones we loose live on in our hearts. His pain and suffering are now done. May God hold you and your family close as you endure this trial. Gary

Sorry to hear that he passed. I too know what it is like to finish a project like dad would have done it. I am currently working on his 48 coupe. He always wanted to chop it but was afraid too, since it was a daily driver. I started on it paused and finished the 58 impala minus paint and interior, cause I know that's how he would roll it.

Today is my birthday. 32 years ago today, my mother called me early in the morning. I thought she was calling to wish me a happy birthday, but what she said was, "Duncan, your father died this morning." My dad was not into cars; his passion was horses (he was an Arabian horse breeder) but he understood my passion and fully supported it. Every year on my birthday, I take some time to think about him and thank the Lord he was my dad. My sincere condolences to you, topher. I pray that you are comforted by your friends here on the HAMB.

    Topher,

Please accept my deepest, heartfelt condolences. I lost my dad about 10 years ago on my birthday and it was a hard thing to endure. I got my love of hot rods from him and he was my hero growing up. I will keep you, your mom, and the rest of your family in my prayers brother. If you ever need to talk to someone or if you need to vent, shoot me a PM and we will connect. God bless.

Sorry for your loss. I'm working harder because I have no one interested in what I do. You are Blessed.
