I’ve seen them on coupes and I want to do it on mine. Anyone done this ? The curve on the panel above the lid makes mounting tricky. I hear the 36 Ford hump back hinges will work ?Any advice is greatly appreciated
Pics too if you have them. Thanks

49 ford are used often as well. Make sure you reinforce the tulip panel or you’ll be bummed later

Thanks, Don and @Tim, searched some other threads and yes a 49 Ford works and 37 Ford sedan. Nothing on rooster socks tho:rolleyes::)

  11. These hinges are are for a 1937 Ford flatback, they may work. HRP

Don't use exterior hinges. They are as ugly as barn door hinges

Not as mainstream, but look at the trunk hinges for an Austin Healey 3000. Similar but not as bulky.

You can modify a Model A a thousand ways. Exterior trunk hinges, like socks on a rooster, is not one of the better ideas. Your car, though, do it your way, but don't expect accolades around here.

Thanks Don, saw them on a roadster at Jalopyrama a couple of years ago and really liked them. To each his own

  19. Sounds like a better take my hinges off and do some Patchwork and repaint. Attach19430_20190810_113440.jpg
I bought them a few years ago off eBay. Honestly don't recall what kind of car they were off. Something really obscure like a Punjabi taxi or something.

...This Coupe without a Doubt is a Post War Aviation Inspired Build updated to fit an early 60s Period. The Hinges Aluminum Packers can easily be Shaped to Contour including Rubber Gasket to absorb some Contour...I believe they are 1950 Ford...

The Aluminum Packers could be polished to Match hinge proper but balance nicly with the Fabbed Top...I really think they look the part and then some...

I got them on my 31' . Their off of 35'-36' humpback trunk hinges, you could get them from Bob Drake. Just have to keep in mind that you want the most narrow and shortest ( think actual hing pin width) because due to panel above trunk deck being curved so the hinge and trunk need to move thru the same angle as to not bind. Model A's are nothing but one huge compound curve everywhere you look .Placement on the body is also important ,cheat them as close to the center of the car as you can ( reduced curve) without looking to close together. And ya, they do look good. I mounted them at 6 3/4" inches (center line) from the side of the trunk edge inward. Also if you use these hinges you will notice they have a "lean" to them in the hinge "plane". This will counter act the curve of the body panel. So mount them with the lower side toward the middle of the trunk at 6 and 3/4" . It's a model A , make it yours. If someone doesn't like a modified model A they have 10 zillion stock ones they can go look at .

...Some more pics...Keep in mind I didn't build this Hotrod...and the forward pad to panel has a more pronounced mismatch that could have had a thin contoured aluminum shim fabbed which would be preferred I suppose to grinding away at the original and cutting through the chrome finish promoting peeling and corrosion. The rubber gasket would still be used so it would be gasket, shim and hinge in the stack of parts...the fact it wasn't really highlights Jalopy in that there are no real rules...everything is a matter of preference and decision.

Hotrods are not perfect and I'm not rushing to change it either...
    It's part of the Soul...;)

The Fwd mounting bolts are hidden behind a panel in the trunk but may have access from behind the seat or from the open sides...

The Aft hinge bolts are obvious and it looks to have had a washer and tube added (welded)

Again these hinges look awesome to me...I really enjoyed taking the artsy detail shots...

Hope the panel the hinges are attached to is very well braced. There is not much metal there in a stock car. You could change those hexheads out for polished button-head cap screws without much work-if you wanted to up it a notch.
