Technical What did you do today?

Gauges came in and I got them installed over the last couple nights. Actually I got them last week but the temp gauge slipped out of my hand and the face of the brand new gauge shattered on the ground. So I had to order another one. Sucks. After cleaning up some awful wiring under the hood, and trying to hole saw these things in, I got them installed.

Honestly, I’m pretty dissatisfied with these Moon gauges. They were expensive as hell, damn near $500 (without counting the one I broke). If you read the installation guide, it tell you that the oil pressure gauge is not linear, and that halfway between 0 and 25 isn’t 12.5, it’s actually 20. How stupid. So I spent $500 on gauges so I can guess what my oil pressure is? I could do that without gauges. Also, for some stupid reason, the way the gauges are backlit is different, so 2 gauges have the standard light from around the sides, and 2 have the whole top of the face illuminated, which looks stupid. These are manufactured by Classic Instruments, and I think Moon needs to go back to Autometer, like the ones I’ve had in my 57 for years that have operated flawlessly. Nothing I can do now I guess.

Wheels came in and will get mounted Saturday. At that point, this project is as done as it is going to be. Let’s see if this wounded engine can last the rest of the season.

Went to the Sharp County Commissioner of State Lands Tax Forfet Auction. Bought Three acres of land on a paved state highway with a creek running along one side. Paid $2500. If its not Redeemed in 10 business days we will own it.

 

Finished up today and put in on the road for testing and setting the adjustable proportioning valve. Thankful I have an Eastwood double flare tool, no more screwed up flares. After bleeding and checking every fittings tight I had to tighten at least 1/2 of them again. With the wife pushing down on the pedal with both feet for 1 minute I still had a leak at the passenger caliper..system works great without power assist. Glad I bought it; it's a true 4 piston , not a single with a floater. Any questions I had were answered quickly by real humans at Wilwood. They were great and got to me to the correct parts for what I wanted.

i bought vintage n.o.s RAC tri guages on #bay for 30.00 bucks. Lots of good deals on there if youre patient..rather have 70s vintage n.o.s than the cheapo new stuff..Just sayin...

 

Got the side pipes on the ol' Chevy. Driver's side went on easy, passenger's side was kind of a pain!

 

yesterday, on way home from estate sale near Sacramento saw this clean '55 Chevy heading East - likely heading to Reno for Hot August Nites, or maybe Bonneville - sorry for terrible pic, doing 75 in traffic

Came home from a long ass day at work ... Couldn't just sit on my ass even though it's still pretty hot and humid here. Went into the garage and installed the kingpins and spindles on the dropped axle I got for the 58 chevy PU from Nostalgia Sids. After that got my stuff together to make the haul to AZ to visit Mopacltd so we can pick up the blown sbc for his Brothers 49 Olds.

Finally got my wheels from Wheel Vintiques and got them mounted by the local shop. Swapped off the ‘54 Buick Skylark wire wheels for these chrome reverse with spider caps. MUCH better, less old man, more attitude. The fronts took a little clearancing of the hub to fit, but overall not bad. Now, just a good cleaning and this one is done until the winter.

Trying to make the -49 Plymouth bumper fit the -48 Dodge.

 

Had to fill and patch a hole in my new hot tub lid I just paid 500 bucks for because some f##king opossum decided it looked delicious.

 

Went racing Friday night. Ran the number in round 1 but bad reaction time cost me the race.

 

Working on my o/t truck,the TPS went bad and caused a very high idle and wonky trans shifts and then no shift at all. While I was in there I replaced the used coolant sensor I put in last winter and installed a new thermostat since the gasket was leaking,this will be my last vehicle with a computer controlled trans and will be looking for a nice mid to late 70s truck to replace it. If it would have been a wiring or computer issue I would have parted this truck out and would be looking at that 72 F250 I seen on Facebook market place instead of being on here but I am looking for one that does not run so I can put in a o/d trans and do some brake upgrades before I start to drive it.

Called my son last night and asked for some help with yard work. i have about 2 acres that needed mowed, trimmed, weedeated, and a bunch of lumber that needed stacked up from my recent shop addition project. He said "What time?" I said "Be here at first light! It's going to get real hot real quick!"

I'll be damned if he didn't roll into the driveway @ 6:15 this morning. I was shocked! Usually when he says he will be here at 6:30, he means PM, not AM. We tag teamed the push mower, walk behind weedeater, and the Zero turn and at 8:30, after we moved my project cars around, he says "What else do you want to get done while I am here?" I told him that was all I needed, thank you for the help, I love you, handed him a $20 for gas money, and told him I would knock $50 off the $800 he owes me. Lol!! I would just as soon get help from him than have him pay me back. He has 4 kids and a wife he is trying to keep fed and clothed, and he just dumped a ton of money on back to school clothes for 2 of the kids. It's all good! It's already hot out there!

I will finish my day out here in the air conditioned shop building out a wing wall between the old shop and new shop, and running a new circuit with 8 ga wire for my welders. And then take the G/F out to dinner at Red Lobster or somewhere nice!

Granddaughter wanted me to clean up the tricycle built her years ago. Wants to make a wallhanger in garage/shop of theirs. She was the envy of every five yo boy on the block.

Put a set of Porter mufflers on the 30 today, got rid of the crap part store mufflers and side exits the PO put on it.
Redid the whole exhaust from the headers back...what a difference it makes.

Drove back from Yarnell AZ today with the Blown SBC strapped on the utility trailer behind Bobs suv. It was fun to watch people slow down next to it and take pictures. It was freakin hilarious when we crossed the boarder into Ca and rolled through the fruit and veggie check point ... The young gal at the checkpoint looked at us and then the trailer, She just smiled real big and waved us through

 

Yesterday and today I pressure washed the '48 Ford coupe I bought recently and I have finally started tearing into. I had the entire interior out, engine out and front clip removed to get to things better and spent about 2 1/2 hours total on it. I have never seen such thick caked on grease and other grime in my life. Some previous owner must have loved to use a grease gun!

To say it was a filthy job would be an understatement. Downside of it all is that I found more rusted out areas to repair than I first thought it had. At least now working on it will be a bit nicer since everything is a lot cleaner!
