    Hello,
Bonneville brings up many memories from looking at all of the old hot rod magazines and others, that gave us the coverage of the annual event. As little kids, we could not wait for the latest magazine to get the full report.

The name, Yeakel Brothers Automotive has a history in So Cal from all the way back in those very early days. From that company, Lou Baney, was part of the lore that came out of So Cal racing scene. Yeakel Plymouth Center in Downey had a loyal following in both drag racing and fast stock class racers.

Some of those early racers/builder’s creations are still around and we are all enjoying at those big time events. When the cackle cars show up with a new addition or a spiffy nostalgic racer from the past. The names on the “new” race cars brings instant memory shock to all of us.

One of the cars that was fun to draw and detail as much as possible was the Bonneville inspired, Yeakel Brothers Roadster (Howard Cam-Cadillac powered) with those classic early flames. Those flames were the ones that we, as little kids, started drawing on our Pee Chees and other school notebooks to pass the time away in the “not so fun” classes in school. The early scallops turned into some fancy curvy flames, then the fancy curved flames turned into the wild flames of today.

The roadster was painted what was called an “Iris Blue” from the Cadillac color charts. The famous, Von Dutch was the painter of the flames. The painting and pinstriping skill was something we all desired to be able to accomplish one day.

With the same Iris Blue color and a gearing change, plus a new side racing number, the roadster showed up at the local dragstrips for a different kind of racing. It was a true dual-purpose race car in both venues.
