Got a Weiand blower with a Holley that I am building but I really want to run dual or triple 97's on it. Anyone running something like this on the street and would you recommend 2 or 3 carbs? I know, I know... I am opening myself up for the "more is always better" comments, but I am just looking for input on the pros and cons on this particular setup. Thanks, Jim
My son has 4-71 bower on his flathead, I think it's 255 cubes and he is running 2 97's with no problems. But get rid of those stupid pulleys and run a proper blower belt or some vee belts.
That is definitely step one, but I run 3 97’s with a progressive linkage on the current ‘47 motor. I am just not sure about 3 carbs with this setup. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Yeah, I will probably look into a proper blower belt after I get it rebuilt and set in the car. I am not to sure about the clearance. I can’t complain about the current blower setup too much since my father just gave it to me. Thanks, Jim Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
97's on a Weiand blower? Meh. Serpentine belt on a flatty? Mercy! Couple of 97's on a SCoT flatty? Magnificent! Triple 97's on a 471 blown flatty? Mine!
It was for me too and thanks! Put some v belts on the front (no toothed blower belt unless that manifold has blow off valves in it and I don't think they do), maybe lose that yellow name tag on the blower or stick a HAMB tag over it. Find an adapter and mount a couple of 97's up there. Keep the 4 Bbl on the shelf for emergencies. You got a challenge there but a little creativity and elbow grease may yield a cool looking hot rod engine. Nice Merc timing cover BTW.
Get Joe Abbin's book "Blown Flathead" He has a formula for how much carburetion is needed. Here's one in the for sale section. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...anual-joe-abbin-blown-flathead-books.1100081/
If Carl says it, it's good enough for me! Objection over ruled. Case closed. Nothing to see, move along.
Thanks Carl. I just got Joe's book and it says the belt is good up to about 6lbs of boost. That is about perfect for the build I am working on. I definitely plan on getting it running with the current setup before I start changing things up.
yea I started out with 2 97's on top, but am way happier with the 500 cfm edelbrock, really perked up the ol truck.......not much into being "correct" more interested in something that I don't have to fuck with all the time.... and besides now that I built the FED I don't race the truck anymore, I just use it to tow the FED
Dad gum Billy, That ride is beautiful! I could see a little in your avatar,,,but it is gorgeous. Super nice engine combo,,,,I love a nice engine! Tommy
286 CI. Started with two Stromberg 97’s but it runs better with two 2 Stromberg 48’s. Runs great with over 30,000 miles. Planning on trying a triple setup with a Stromberg 48 in the middle with two Stromberg-Scott throttle bony injectors.
Very nice looking set up! I was considering triple 97’s with a progressive linkage similar to what I have on my 59ab motor (although that one is actually an 81 in the middle with two 97’s). I just really like the look of the triples, but was not sure if it would work well with this set up. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
The hardest part of the fuel system was getting the idle and off-idle setup to get the fuel curve correct. Three carbs with progressive linkage will make getting the fuel curve a little more difficult. Due to the twist of the supercharger rotors the front two cylinders run slightly leaner than the rear.
