This is the rear of my 40 taken by my buddy in his 59 vette on our way to the woodward cruise.

    Hello,

We have seen stock rear taillights in all shapes and sizes. There are even those that pop up for gas filling. But, one of the most unusual and one of the biggest warnings to flash toward the following drivers was the 1959 Ford models. It was almost a perfect set up. When we were driving our own cars, the rear brake lights from the factory were ok, passed the gov’t safety tests, but we always looked to others for brighter lighting and better designs.

Our 58 Impala was cool looking from the back, but 6 red brake lights when depressed was a lot brighter than one. The thing was, the rear clear back up light became a difficult solution. Ours was a small white light next to the license plate that lit up when the transmission was put in reverse. That lit up the ground and area behind the car. Not stock obviously and probably not legal, but functional.

So, the 1959 Ford Sedan, Ranchero, and Station Wagon line ups seem to solve all of the taillight worries that most hot rodders have about being seen. The huge circular light gave two big eyeballs staring at the following driver. When backing up, the two white lights were high enough to cast a great white light on the whole area including the following or parked cars nearby. What more could anyone ask for in car safety lighting?

Custom car rear taillight design for someone being different? Plus those 1959 Fords looked like they had jet motors sticking out, facing the rear following cars.

    Hello,

What is not to like about a 1932 Ford from the rear angle photo? Let alone a chopped 3 window coupe? In red, with both suicide doors open? From back in 1959 at the dragstrip? What led me to film this coupe was the color. At the time, I wanted to show my brother a bright looking race car and this altered coupe fit the bill. It wasn’t the fastest race car, or the meanest sounding, but it just had the look of a race car. Would it be cool for the street?

First the motor would have to be moved back to the usual place, not a 25% setback as per Altered Class rules. Then a nice street legal header system would be installed, along with moving the controls back to the stock location. That is a lot of work, but then the 1932 chopped Ford 3 window coupe would be one of the meanest looking hot rods anywhere.

Add in an SBC motor with a couple of Paxton Centrifugal Superchargers and it is, “off to the races…” err… high school, the normal Friday night drive-in restaurant cruises, and the show/shine that takes place in the back row of the Friday night drive-in parking lots. One other topping event would be the weekend Cherry Avenue night time escapades...

The funny thing is, as popular as a 32 coupe seems, in our teenage era, it was a rare animal sighting when one was seen somewhere. On our long road trips or weekend cruises down the coast in So Cal, we might have seen one, if any. But, they do look rather cool.
