  1. since we are talking hurst shifters. any one know what year this could be? it had a very tight throw, both forward and side to side. IMG_6209.JPG IMG_6197.JPG

  2. I had a green one in my 56 Victoria in 1969.

The fuzz didn't last long before it started to come off.

Great album too! I had it on 8-track not long after it was released in ‘76. Randy

Had both Hurst and Mr Gasket t handles. Had a Hurst with the built in line loc button. Worked great on my V Gate. Think I still have one around here somewhere.

Ok, before this thread goes completely off the rails - are we thinking that the T handles came out in the mid 60's? Or later?

I was thinking there was a gold one, in the far reaches of my ? brain, I recall seeing a gold one that had seen better days, looked like an animal that was losing its fur.

My OT 68 Hemi came with a Hurst "T". Installed a Verti-Gate and got the Mr Gasket "T" with the roll control built into the handle.

Some were factory installed in the late '60s....

  12. Gold velvet ?? Wow. Literally, the hot rod equivalent of a shifter "pocket pussy" ... sheez' ... I learn sh#t here, every day. This place is truly nutz'.

  13. One thing though. If you shift it hard enough, you'll rip the skin off the insides of your finger on the lock nut.
In that case, you'll need a Hurst shifter glove too.

  14. My '70 Torino Cobra came with one from the factory.

I had the H pattern T handle from my high school car in the top of my toolbox until a couple years ago when I saw what the old ones were selling for on ebay. :)

  16. ^This.
The unbroken white one I had sold for $100.
Still looking for a HURST glove. Mark probably has one!

Hard to say, they could have? I got that magnesium one from a guy at Carlisle about 30 years ago. Said he worked at the Hurst plant and retrieved it from their dumpster!

tb33anda2rd. That is a Hurst synchro-loc. They were an upgrade from the mystery shifter. In stalled one in my buddies 57 chevy after he snapped the handle off his mystery shifter and broke his hand punching the dash on a 1-2 power shift. That was in about 1966.

tb33anda3rd: that’s a 2nd generation Hurst going by the shift stops and no barrel knob. Probably about 1962?

  28. thanks. I was told the car was built in 1955, but I am sure there were upgrades. when I went through the gears I was impressed by how smooth and how little you had to move it to shift into each gear. the car has a lot of trophies from back in the day and it has been off the road [supposedly] since the mid sixties.
