But as per the rules when you change one thing it affects two other things. The rule reared its head when we fitted the 36 dash to our 28 tudor , we made a new dash rail and brought the dash out some to give a small glove box and additional clearance for the cable drive 36 speedometer to 28 gas tank ,sweet that looks good.
A while later we fit the doors and realise the window winders run smack into the dash, darn . Even short winders will hit the dash .The first pic is the short winder (possibly a vent window winder ,maybe?) second is a standard winder.
What are folks thoughts on a solution??
Yes the floor is some mockup pattern wood .
And no we are not using the big condom shifter or boot>

Convert to some of the new electric window winders?

Cut a scallop into the dash...looks kinda square towards the door anyway..might make the transition from dash to doors a little more elegant..

Find a shorter winder, perhaps from an early Ford rear window? Or cut one down.
Got any dimensions of the two shown ?

Is there anything housed in the dash that would be effected if you welded in a “reverse blister” for clearance?

  8. Move the mechanism back,
    Move the mechanism down
Power windows ,,,, there’s that retrofit unit with the motor that goes onto the winder shaft.

Use the racers seat belt trick

  9. How about these, Can,t get much shorter. I believe 1946 Ford vent window winders.

Model A coupe "winder" handles are approx. 2 3/4" long from the front to the center of the shaft. Hope this helps, Carp.

  12. I never ride with the front windows up. Just open the door to put them up or down!
Dash looks awesome. Gave me some more ideas...

Worst comes to worst install power windows and use the window crank as the switch.

  20. Exactly what I was thinking.
Tilt an inch (25mm) forward, window up. An inch back, window down. A pair of microswitches and centering springs to hold it in the neutral zone when at rest. I think the shorter type handle would be the right touch. The ivory spinner knobs are talking to me....... but if that clashes with the dash knobs, then chrome spinners are a generic blend, I suppose.

I had the same problem with the window cranks using a '40 dash in my T coupe. Look up Canuck's post "Bear claw latch and window regulators - install in a 1930 Model A coupe". He does an excellent explanation on how he used Jeep Cherokee window regulators. The only problem I encountered was using the 1946 Chev window cranks. They fit the splines on the Jeep Cherokee but I'm still puzzled on how to utilize the retaining clips. I sent Canuck a PM about this, but he couldn't remember what he did so obviously it was something simple. I'll just keep trying. However, by mounting the window crank lower with this regulator, they clear the dash just fine. This is a very easy swap and in my case, I had cut my door glass a bit short and they would rock a bit and bind going up with the Model T regulators but with the Jeep units having a rack and cable setup aligning the glass vertically, it solved this problem. I'm also for moving the mechanism back a couple inches. It should still work fine. Especially if the top is chopped. Shorten the arm the same distance you move it back.

(Do a mock up first to test the theory)

  24. Similar Black Panther's thought you could cut the high lighted areas flip them side to side and make a recessed area for the window cranks.

However the steering wheel and pedals being on the wrong side would be my greater concern.:D upload_2019-8-4_16-57-51.png

At this point I think your best recourse is to stop all and any work and save yourself a lot of aggravation and just send me the car.

    I know I know it's no problem, I'm happy to help ;)

Whilst I see this as a possibility, would there be enough room for your hand/fingers to work the crank the winder without hitting the dash ?

Or just open the door to crank the window then shut it when you're done. :)

One more vote for trying to relocate the regulators.

We don’t think we will recess the dash , imagine having to point your little pinky out in a dainty drinking fashion to crank the handle . there wont be enough room to get a decent hold on the winder.
So if we chop the car say 4” we can move the regulator down a similar amount and still have enough travel in the window.
Had some 4dr regulators and panel but gave them away, darn.
