After some convincing from a buddy, I’ve decided to post my progress on my 32 since purchasing it last year. I bought the car as a “roller”, but have removed/replaced everything but the body/frame rails/front and rear cross members. I’m shooting to build a 40’s style car, juice brakes, 40 rear, 8ba, 39 trans, 3” chop. This is my first hot rod build, and I’m definitely learning a lot as I go, while also screwing up a lot of stuff along the way.
Once I got the car I started collecting parts, and doing my research. I also bought a shop in the midst of the build. So as I’m building the car I’m also renovating the shop. Here’s some progress pics of both.
Nice start! You'll have a great car when you're done. Here's a picture of my 5-window with a three inch chop for some inspiration.
Try if possible to get a 38 (81A) shift top. Mine allowed the trans to get in two gears at once and ruined a 19 tooth Lincoln gear set. The 81A top has a much better interlock.
Cool lookin garage, it’s plain to see you are taking the time to take good photos which we appreciate. Also: cool dog
Looking good. Currently in the process of tearing down an old barn to do the same look in our garage. Like the look! Got me enthused again to get it done.
Hell yeah that’s awesome, it’s nice to have the shop project going at the same time as the car. When I need a break from one, I tinker with the other. Good luck with yours!
Get a Buck head and mount it on the wall. You could hang fan belts off the antlers and decorate him at Xmas.
Life’s been a little hectic lately, and I’ve also bought another project car. So between the two, the ‘32 hasn’t seen much progress lately. That being said I plan on getting back on it within the next coming weeks, and trying to button up the chop/steering.
Your shop looks like a dream world, hard to tell from the pitchers is the rag top a 53 ? guess the 1911 keeps out those who have sticky fingers.
Thanks a bunch for all those great pics. Basically the same as what I have in mind for my '32 without the chop and full fenders. Is that the stock '40 rear end and torque tube? The tube was shortened by how much?
